So my wife and I will be traveling to Mt. Rainier NP for our honeymoon and im facing this bullshit shutdown. We don't arrive until Oct. 16 and hopefully I don't have to worry about anything by then. I've had this planned for months. The cabin and plane tickets are already paid for. Im looking for locals' suggestions for day hikes and general good times to be had in the area or where I can access the park under uncle sam's radar. My home base will be a grand little cabin in Packwood, WA. Really looking forward to hearing from, and meeting some peeps in the Pacific Northwest!! Reassurances that this shit will be over by then also welcome.
As a Coloradan, I only know a passing amount about the Rainier area and so wouldn't feel confident advising you other than to suggest that you post your question to cascadeclimbers if you haven't already. It's been a great resource for me in the past and is a good way to productively narrow your audience. Have fun
St Hwy 410 should be open as well 123, however you may not be able to pull off the road without being ticketed. I would look to the south for some hikes.
As for reassurances that this shit will be over by then. Are you kidding??? I'd rather take odds that the Bears will win the Super Bowl.
