How many people travel to this location and how hard is it in your experience to find partners for this area? I am really psyched to try some of these routes but I'll be solo for that part of my trip. Would Portrero Chico be a good location in proximity to it to find a partner that would be interested in visiting this area???

Trying to get a handle on the geography of the area...

Thanks for any beta!

The Potrero is 500 miles from Chonta but it would be a good place to find partners that want to explore more of Mexico.

Ed, Thanks! We have talked in the past and you've given me great beta. I hope to be able to meet you down there this winter...if you need a belay slave I'll gladly follow you up whatever you are interested in doing...and maybe you can tell me some good stories about the area and locals and whatever else!

Hey man if your starting in potrero, it's really easy to find partners there for an area called el salto which is about two hours from potrero. The climbing in el salto is similar to chonta lots of Tufas and Stalactites with a cave and a vertical wall, pretty world class area. Might be a good option if you can't find partners for chonta.

good idea! I've heard of the area but I haven't really seen many pics or talked to many people about el salto. I will look into that.

First time for me down in Mexico ever actually so I'm really stoked to the couple months I got down there this winter.

When are you going down? It's pretty easy to organize a trip to el salto from potrero, even if you didn't drive down. The people that did drive are stoked to explore, and split gas. You're right, there isn't much info on it, but it all makes sense when you get there.

There are usually Mexican climbers there on the weekend but during the weekdays you might be alone. It's a good idea to find partners in Potrero, especially someone with a car although our friend went there by bus. It's worth going to Chonta for sure.

It is worth going if you climb 5.12+ or harder! Only two/three 5.11 warm-ups that's it. Recommend travelling with partner/s as local climbers drive from the DF so......

As for the EPC check out Magic Ed's website. Worth a visit and like Katya said better for meeting partners.

Ope.
