Buckskin Gulch/Paria Canyon

We've been planning this hike all summer and have a prior permit but with the gov't closure cannot pick it up. The shuttle companies now won't drop us off at the trailhead (understandable, they have to maintain a working relationship with BLM). I'm willing to risk getting ticketed by any BLM rangers still working. I'm not willing to lose the money for our plane tickets to the area without exploring some alternatives. So - is there anyone willing to give 3 of us a ride from Page to Buckskin Gulch on 10 October, and/or from Lee's Ferry to Page on 15 Oct? I understand that there is an extra 7 miles hike on the road at the end because the gate to Lee's Ferry is closed. We'd pay what we would have paid the shuttle companies. Please don't bite my head off if you think this is a bad idea - advice is appreciated!

I hitched it a year or so ago. Took awhile but you can do it. Take an extra gallon of water and cash for beer and ice cream at the corner.

Public lands that require permits are closed. If you can't produce a permit for the LEOs' they're going to ticket you.

i don't think you need a permit if you do it in a day do you?

Self issuing permit for day use can be obtained at the trail heads.

For the OP instead do the std. three day Wire Pass - White house hike much easier to get rides. Drive every one into Wire Pass then drive back to White and leave your vehicle. From there start looking for a ride as you walk back to the hwy.

not true at all... sources please? public land is open to the public... NATIONAL PARKS are closed... the paria canyon conveniently lies outside of the grand canyon national park... I will gladly give you a shuttle, 928 310 6605, I live in flagstaff...

Ergo:

Since there is a permit you must obtain to enter the Paria-Vermillion Cliffs Wilderness, you're breaking the law.

Not to say you shouldn't go anyhow.

all that it says is the established campgrounds and facilities will be closed, who camps at those anyways??? i didn't read anywhere that it would be trespassing (unlike how it is in national parks)...

anyways OP they just blockaded the entrance as of last night... so you would have to hike in...

Thanks to everyone for the helpful information! I know they have blocked to road to Lees Ferry (hence the extra 7 mile hike at the end) but have they now blocked another road that leads to the Buckskin Gulch trailhead? If so, where did they block it/how much extra mileage would it add to the beginning of the hike (presuming we could get a ride to the blockade)...
Thanks folks!
