Sorry to bump a thread about an event that ended but is anyone still out there as of today or does anyone know if the area is closed/effected by the Government Shutdown? My group (of 4) was planning on heading out there this weekend and I can't get a hold of any govt. officials. I will relay any information anyone has to the shelf road closure thread (where the same questions are unanswered). Thanks!!

I doubt they will be able to close anything without gates as Derek mentioned on another thread.
I think I am heading down early tomorrow morning. I will post what I find out if I can. From what I have gathered, climbing is legit but the established campgrounds will be 'closed'.
My question is what happens if we set up camp there anyway and a BLM ranger shows up? Should I expect a fine (i.e trespass)? I've never been to Shelf but I looked at a map and it seems like there is a ton of BLM land around the road. Couldn't I just pitch my tent outside of the established campground and be good? Or is much of that land signed "no camping"?
I know we are all pretty much speculating but I figure its worth asking.

We will just camp on the open land if the campgrounds are closed.
28 Sept 2013: May have dropped my Wedding Ring (White Gold with 5 Sapphires) and another ring (titanium with silver inlay) out the Trail to Menses Prow. Any booty finders, please contact me so I can get out of the doghouse.
