Is Maple Canyon Open?

Nobody thought it prudent to make which areas are closed obvious. So rather than drive the 2.5 hours down to Maple to find out if there is a sign/fence blocking the entrance, does anyone know this information first hand?

Thanks.

I heard a news report that US Forest Service land is open, but National Parks and Monuments will be closed as they are required to protect an irreplaceable national resource, thus requiring staff to patrol, provide facilities to visitors, etc.

Maybe someone else can confirm with more direct knowledge.

Thanks for the info. Not looking for camping options, just day tripping.

The road is open past the campgrounds. The campgrounds themselves are closed and the restrooms could be locked. There are camping spots along the main canyon road before you get to the forest service gate which is right before the campgrounds. These spots are free and are on private property but are limited in number.

Sounds like ONLY the camping is closed. Access to the Canyon and the crags is not being blocked.

No USFS land is closed to access, just facilities that require employees for maintenance. Since climbing areas aren't directly maintained by the USFS there wouldn't be any reason to close them.

All climbing in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest is open, no access is restricted.

The main thing that might affect climbers is that almost all bathrooms, picnic areas and campgrounds are closed.

Was there yesterday and can confirm the area is open! Even the pit toilet was unlocked. Didn't look at the campground, but based on the traffic and what I saw through the trees, it appeared to be open as well.

Does anyone have more concrete info on the campground? I'm hoping to make a trip this weekend and would prefer to camp.

I was there yesterday. There were a few people camping. I saw no closed signs, but I wasn't looking for them. They graded the road. It was not warm.

Thanks for the info. We'll hopefully give it a shot!

Did the trip. It was excellent; what a nice area! The campground appears open and there are no signs saying that it is closed. We managed to snag a spot easily. The reservation system and camping fee system looks like it has ceased to function. The outdated "reserved" signs have not been removed and there are no fee envelopes. The toilets are open.
