Where are you getting $25? I come up with $10 / citizen...

I dig. In any case, yeah - 90 bucks ain't that bad when compared to what most people spend at the mountain deli for a posh egg sandwich before they go climbing.

There is a breakfast sandwich named "The Eggspensive."

I imagine that Kevin would rather be dragged out to sea and raped by a pack of mermen instead of paying for one.

Probably from my post in 2011. Looking at the link it looks like the average household is paying NPS $25.45 via discretionary spending, and $3.48 via mandatory.

I think they should raise the prices even more. It will keep down the numbers which will make my climbing day that much better.

Further, I think they should have an option for a premium pass that will get you guaranteed parking no matter what time you show up at the cliff.

I note a good number of parking complaints. I seriously never have a hard time getting parking, and I go basically every week, sometimes twice a week, always on weekends (busy time). Are people for some reason opposed to the lower lot / stairmaster approach?

Yeah, the old Golden Eagle pass is now gone and there are several other varieties of all-access passes now out. Was thinking of finding out more about them (and the senior pass discount) online last night but alas,,,Italic Text the government is shut down and so are the internet links to purchase them. SUCKS

Gail,
How about this Lifetime parking
I'll put my 16 year old daughter's name on the membership, and in effect we'll have 3 lifetime passes for $3000. Great deal.
The $17 is an accommodation to day users, it's land held in public trust and has to allow access. Just doesn't have to be the same price for all. Buy in volume, get a better price. Is this a novel concept to anyone?
Maybe they could make service hours mandatory. Day visitors - 1 hour.
Annual members - 8 hours. Lifers - 20 hours per annum.
National parks ? You're going to use them as an example of how much you get for your money while the same people run up bills our great grandchildren will pay for ?

I can't believe people are still going on about this. If the Gunks isn't worth the price to you, then don't go, We get that you don't like the fees. Have a nice day.

Thanks. I see now that it's the same numbers as mine - a "household" is considerd 2.545 people, at roughly $10 /person.

Haha I missed that one.

It's only rape if it isn't consensual.

I agree with gblauer, raise the daily fee to 20 bucks

Back in tha old days, it was not uncommon for state troopers to pick up hitchhikers heading out from town.

Wife and I were in the Gunks for 2 days this summer. Bought a pass even though I don't live in the USA yet and she doesn't go climbing outdoors much without me so they probably won't get used until xmas.

It was $140 for the 2 of us. This doesn't seem like much when we pay $45 a month each for climbing wall membership. And where I come from our national parks are free.

You can't even get into the US national parks at the moment because of the shutdown but you can climb at the Gunks. I thought the Mohonk preserve was a really great place and the fee seems pretty good value by US standards when you take into account the unique situation it is in and the nearby population density. I know I will get a lot of use out of the pass in the future.

just look at it as an outdoor gym membership, because that is what it is.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
