Dog Wizzed on Crash Pad

Smells terrible. Looking for ways to solve this problem but would prefer to keep both the pad and the dog.

Any suggestions?

Rub your nose in it and say; bad human, you know better than to leave stuff out where the dog can get to it! :)

Actually it's under the bed, but we have hard wood floors and the path of least resistance apparently leads straight to the pad from where she squatted. Sad. It's probably just a fad, or I'd be more mad. But I would like to add that otherwise, my dog is quite rad.

Go to your nearest Petsmart or pet store.
They carry odor neutralizers for 'accidents.'

I can solve your problem.

Meet me behind the apothecary with 6 black candles, a goblet of owl blood, and a box of Milk Duds.

yeah enzymatic cleaners that break down the funk should work fine. any pet store has them. You could pull the foam out and run the cover through the wash but thats a pain in the ass. when its folded put some dryer sheets inbetween

take the foam out of pad. throw the shell(the outer material) in washing machine then hang dry. or hand wash and hang dry. odds are the material on the pad has shrunk so the foam will be hard to get back in. as for the foam while it is out hose it off and let it dry completely before stuffing back into shell

blegh. OK, I suppose I was just being lazy and hoping for an easier/less expensive way. Thanks guys. If the detergents or hosings don't work, I will text you NL. Black magic is worth a shot.

I work at a vet hosp and we sell an enzymatic called "Anti Icky Poo". Made by Mister Max. This stuff would make a corpse smell like new laundry. No shit.

Burn the dogs house down, that will teach him.

At least it was your dog on your pad!

Soak it in a bathtub full of water and baking soda. Works with cat piss and that's 10 times worse than dog pee.

That's the bitch.

So, it wasn't so difficult after all. I removed the fabric around the pad and washed it in the machine on cold, once with a ton of good smelling soap and then again with no soap, then hung to dry.

I sprayed the foam with spot treat/shout it out spray crap and it smells better, but I'm also going to soak them in hot water and baking soda in the tub then set outside to dry (don't have access to a hose right now). Seems to be on it's way to smelling somewhat normal again.

The hardest part will probably be stuffing the foam and padding back into the fabric cover.

The hardest part will prolly be keeping other dogs from peeing on your pad.
They can smell that lingering scent for a long time.
Good luck :)

I took my foam out of a crashpad two years ago and never got it back in.

Now I just take the closed cell foam out with me instead of the whole pad...watch those highball landings!!!

Have you tried cutting or shaving the foam down to a smaller size? That's my back up plan. Also, when taking it out of the cover, I found that folding the foam over first, then straightening once it was in would be the best/only way to get it to go back in.

Bad Dog,!, Bad Dog!!,,,what about that stuff they sell that you add to your gym shoes to wash, when they get all funky from your feet? It might work too.

Update: mission accomplished.

Some pro tips for anyone who happens upon this thread while troubleshooting a similar problem:

1.) if you wash your crash pad cover in the machine, use the cold water setting, and DO NOT dry in a dryer -- hang dry. This way it does not shrink.

2.) getting the foam back into the cover is actually pretty darn easy when the cover hasn't shrunk: fold the foam taco style, then put it into the cover like you would a folded check into an envelope, then press one corner down into the cover an begin to unfold and spread the foam out until each side and corner is plush. Repeat that process with the harder foam insert.

3.) I only used regular laundry detergent, spot spray, water, and baking soda -- and the smell, to my nose at least, is gone.

Cheap, easy. Longest part of the process was air drying the foam after soaking it in baking soda and water.

Hopefully other dogs will ignore the trace scent of the pee pee.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
