I had a Bankart reconstruction of left shoulder in 1969, thanks to playing on high-school football team. Shoulder never regained original range of motion, and the tightened joint contributed to bone-on-bone arthritis, only 20 years later. After the surgery, it took a few months before I could start using it. More before I could climb. Perhaps the procedure has been improved in the ensuing decades. I know PT is very different now, beginning almost immediately after a surgery.
I haven't had the surgery, but I have a Bankart lesion from a dislocation. I did the recommended PT starting a week or so after the incident and returned to limited climbing a couple months later. I was back to full strength inside a year. I still need to be careful on certain kinds of moves, but nothing that I find too limiting.
