New Finger/hand injury!

After years of popping pulleys, and other typical finger injuries I finally found a new one!

This time it's in the 'big knuckle' between my middle and ring finger. Make a fist, now put your pointer finger from the other hand between the big knuckle of your middle and ring finger (at the base of the finger).

This is where it hurts. I was doing a gaston move with my right hand while attempting to rock up on my left foot, I reached out to another gaston with my left hand that was a full arms length away in an attempt to balance myself during the rock-up. something popped in my middle finger and I thought it was a lateral, but today the space between knucles is noticeably swolen and hurts.

Anyone else have this novel injury? Any ideas on whether this is muscle, tendon or ligament?

This problem, but I went right hand gaston, left foot to left hand match then left hand gaston.

Sounds like an interosseus or lumbrical injury. Muscle tear or an avulsion of the distal insertion.
Not sure there's much to do.
How are you progressing?

Happened on Wednesday evening,9-25-2013.

Haven't done anything climbing wise since, but it still hurts and is very swollen.

Have been trying to look up lumbrical/interossei injuries without much success. I'd guess same treatment as other muscle injuries, ie ice, temporary rest, resumption of activity as tolerated, but that's pure conjecture. Will let you know if I find anything.

Decided that despite the pain I would go do some sports climbing today. It doesn't feel any worse, which is good news! It does send a phantom pain feeling that makes me think my lateral on the big knuckle is jacked.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
