Jordanelle, Rock Cliffs area
|
So I recently arrived to the area from JTree to move to Kamas. As I was driving from Heber to Kamas, I passed the Jordanelle Lake, Rock Cliffs area. I noticed some of it was on private property (Victory Ranch?); but there was a lot that wasn't. Couldn't find any routes or info in the Destinations/Routes section. |

I've fished in the rock cliff arm a million times and always wondered how climbable some of those rock formations are on the north side of the arm. I haven't heard of anything being developed there, but if you find something, let us know. |

Well, I decided to scout out the Rock/Cliff right at the entrance of the Rock Cliff State Park entrance. My climbing partner (my daughter) and I hiked to the top where we found a 3 bolt anchor with chains. One bolt has some slight rust, but the other two and the chains were brand new (probably put in early this summer). I spoke with the Park Ranger at the Entrance Stations (James), he said he had seen some folks rappelling, but no one climbing. |

Does it look like it will take pro or will you be bolting it? I live in Park City and have never heard of anyone climbing over there but am also interested to come take a look. |

NickO, I intend to Trad climb it. The center route follows a natural seam/crack, it will take pro. I'm not sure about the quality of the rock, so I'll be sewing it up for sure. The right route also follows a seam/crack (but appears steeper), but it also looks very pro-able. The left route goes up a slight arete. I couldn't see it very well....yet. |

I grew up in Heber and climbed over there a little bit int he late 80's i just remember really sharp rock. |

Bottom line, I have no intention of bolting, rather I'd like to Trad these routes. Cheers, Alex

That is some of the worst rock out there. It's seems like a crappy limestone cobble rock that crumbles when you look at it. |
