I would like to climb out in Joshua Tree early October for a few days. Is climbing all day possible then or is it too hot? It looks like campsites are pretty well booked. Are there any other options? Thank you in advance for your advice.
I know a cool place that rents a back house to climbers and it close to the park and good deal, temps are good we climbed most of the day today it will only cool down from hear on.
Agreed that camping spots should be available. I wrote a different response as to what campgrounds are closed and but then decided to just look it up. Moving into October, you shouldn't have any trouble getting a spot. Although, I swear to biscuit Sheep Pass was still closed as of today when I drove past but perhaps getting ready to open?
This straight from the NPS site today, "Please note: Jumbo Rocks Campground is closed due to storm damage and Ryan Campground is closed until October 4. Belle and White Tank campgrounds, which were closed for the summer, are now open. Black Rock, Cottonwood, Hidden Valley, Indian Cove, and Sheep Pass are also open."
Temps are fine, mornings and afternoons very pleasant. Even now mid-day offers shade as we move into Autumn - warm but shady as the sun is much lower.
Come on out ianreynaul we're waiting for you!

Skip J-Tree; Idyllwild is great in October, and there is lots of free camping to be found.
