Try and get to this if you can. Some of the leases I don't have a problem with, but Eagle Canyon in the Swell is not only beautiful, it has some excellent climbing. That area is completely inappropriate for drilling.

Thanks for posting this up Andrew. If I was closer I'd be there.

Like you there are some places in The Swell I could tolerate limited drilling... others no way in hell. The Swell is a very special place. Please help save it from inappropriate drilling.

Damn,

I thought this was going to be smack down for all those idiots who drill bolts in the swell.......

Hey I resemble that remark :)

I'm glad as many people came as they did. Please send comments to the BLM even if you couldn't come.

Hope you didn't use an internal combustion engine to get there. That would seem a little hypocritical.

This is an excellent example of the "appeal to hypocricy" or "Tu quoque" argument. It is a logical fallacy in which the an attempt is made to discredit a position based on supposed inconsistency on the part of the proponent of a position. Clearly one's mode of transport to and from Eagle Canyon has nothing at all to do with whether it is a good idea to sell oil leases in Eagle Canyon. Fail!

Thanks MarkJ. I have nothing against responsible drilling, and I have done consulting for an oil company in the past. I even said that I don't have a problem with all of the leases in question around the Swell.

Some of the leases are completely and totally inappropriate though - they are located in areas of the swell that are not much different than Arches or Canyonlands parks.

Joke is on me.

e.g. leases around Mexican Mountain. I haven't looked at the BLM lease info but I would guess they would use Mexican Mountain Road for access. That would truly suck.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
