Cam Comparison

Hello there!

I recently wanted a better tool to compare cams since I've been thinking about adding some cams to my rack. So I whipped up a quick visualization a couple days ago to do just that.

estk.github.io/camvis/?1=1&…

Also, I'll take requests for adding cams to the list. Just make a google doc like the one
here and I'll add the data in.

Enjoy!
Evan

+1 for adding master cams and standard metolius cams

adding Fixe Aliens as well as Big Bros and Valley giants would make the ultimate list

Evn,

This is too cool, I love geeking out over gear specs and this visual makes it so easy to analyze the differences between all the options.

Thanks for the contribution!

This is the best size comparison tool I've seen. Now any chance you could add Grey - Ornage Metolius TCUs? In the smaller sizes they have more expansion than the Master Cams.

Alternately, you could use the thoroughly vetted spadout.com rack simulator, which has existed for at least 5 years, and has already compiled all of this information in such a way that you can quickly isolate weaknesses in your rack, as well as perform what-if analyses for buying new gear.

c3's, wc new's, and tcu's added!

@tyson d3 indeed!
@abqdrew Happy to help!
@Saylor You're very welcome.
@Evan Interestingly, Metolius's website indicates that they are the same. Where did you see that they have slightly more range?

This is very cool evn. Can options be added where the cams are listed in increasing/decreasing size rather than just brand? This makes it very easy to compare one brand vs another. I've included two old pictures that someone made long ago that I've found the best cam charts to date. Your's would be the modern version of this.

Options to sort by size and include/exclude brands would be great!

the spadout thing is cool but it's a different tool, it doesn't compare different makes of pro.
plus no aliens of any brand, no heliums, choice of one bd micro nut....
and nobody offering to add requested gear.

evn- thanks for adding C3's

Another suggestion for evn-

If one could select certain pieces from a line of cams as opposed to the entire line of cams it would be very easy for people to enter their current rack and see whats missing/reduntant, etc.

Also- and this isn't a suggestion/request for evn per say but rather a general "I wish this existed" sort of thought: There needs to be a "real world" size range chart for our active gear. The manufacturers listed ranges go from over-cammed to tipped out, and for comparison purposes those ranges don't offer a clear picture of what a given rack is covering well. For example I noticed the spadout chart showing that a #1 C3 and a .4 C4 have overlap at a certain width. In theory yes, but practice both are bad placements.
