boulder climber dies on grand Teton
|
I just heard about a local boulder climber falling in a bad storm up on the grand Teton. Condolences to the friends and family. Such a sad summer continued.http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/08/us/wyoming-tetons-death/index.html |

Anyone with any other details? |

He was a friend. Really sad and shocking news to all of us that close to him. |
|
I'm feeling shocked. I met Ed recently and was speaking to him last week about climbing the Grand. If anyone has more info about the accident and wants to tell me about it, please message me. |
|
I have read several reports of this accident - I think the key piece of of information is that he was "scouting for a campsite following a storm with heavy rain and hail." The rock in those conditions can be slick as snot. I would venture to say he lost his footing and tumbled. |

A friend and I were coming down from the Grand when this storm hit - we were a couple tenths above the Caves when the hail started. It was about pea sized, and I was forced to crouch down under my pack for cover. We then hauled down to the Caves in a hurry and sat under them for a while for the worst of the storm to pass us by. |

Why did they put a campsite on top of a rock cliff? Just curious |

Thanks Jaren for the clarification |
