So I have been to the city a number of times now but have never ventured down to these two areas. I have decided it is about time to do it or it just won't get done. My questions are...How long is the approach from the Circle Creek overlook to each...distance wise not time. Is the approach relatively flat or will I be hauling my fat butt up and down lots of hills? I can handle a long approach that isn't too hilly.

I am looking to do Dike of Gastonia, Cruel Shoes and Classic Route.
Any beta would be appreciated.

Did lost arrow last summer. I remember it being around 1 mile, relatively flat. Mostly in the open until you get near the spire. (In other words, not a good mid-day hike on a summer day).

The route is fantastic and absolutely worth the hike. Lot's of good beta on those routes in the MP sites for them.

I though it looked like a flat hike the last time I was at the parking lot but my memory isn't the same at 44 as it was at 34.

Are both of the area relatively close to each other? To me they look less than a mile apart.

I did the lost arrow spire 5.7 route last weekend. It's super classic. book says you need two 60M ropes to rappel off the back side but a 70 will make it. the hike is a little over a mile and relatively flat from circle creek. No crazy hills. Striped rock is maybe a 10 min hike from the lost arrow spire.

I would definitely recommend Lost Arrow. It was an excellent climb. The hike is like they said above, nice and flat on good trails.

Well I am defiantly going to hike out and do Lost Arrow and Stripe Rock now. Knowing that it is a relatively easy hike plus having a 3rd person along to split gear with will make it all the easier. Thanks for the info everyone. Might even see if we can do some exploring out there if time permits.

So, um, do you have a physical disability? If not, then hiking 1 lousy mile with a pack full of gear aint that bad.

Just sayin.

I have 1 bad knee that gets worse as the day goes along. Not really worried about the hike in it is the hike out after a day of abusing the knee that worries me. Currently have a strained back but I think it will be ok by the time I go.

Aaight.

Way to get after it.
