Falling Dog

Warning: this is another dog at the crag incident. A week ago, I was at Vedauwoo. As we were climbing, we noticed a Dalmatian robustly climbing boulders. Anyway, going from where we were to the base of a new climb we had to scramble through an opening stepping on vertical blades of rock as seen in picture. As I was at the point, where the climber is in the picture, the Dalmatian came racing over and started climbing the vertical wall on the right. He got up about 8 feet, when he fell and did a back flip into me causing me to fall and hitting the ground. I wasn’t seriously hurt, but ended up with a seriously scraped right elbow.

The owners of the dog came over to me. Neither apologized and one started asking me medical type questions, e.g., can you move your fingers, can you raise your arm to the side. I asked him if he had special knowledge. He proudly he asserted he was a Wilderness First Responder. A bit irritated with them by that time, I just snorted (nothing against WFRs, I’m one myself, but I hope don’t ever come across as being such a know-it-all). Meanwhile, the dog was waiting for me to enter the slot so we could play the game again. I had to ask the owners to restrain the dog so that I could get to my climb.

After four decades of climbing this is a new one for me: hit by a falling dog.

80 something years old.

Crushing the wide at Vedauwoo, shaking off broken vertebra like a kid, and getting hit by falling dogs.

In my wildest dreams I hope to grow up to be you. I mean that dude.

I can't imagine trusting my dalmatian near a cliff.

thanks to centuries of intense inbreeding, take the intelligence of say a Golden Retriever and divide by 100 and you have the Dalmation

As with all unruley crag dogs, I would advise a swift kick in the throat.

There aren't bad dogs, just bad owners.

I hope you have video of your Dalmatian on his mountain bike. That would be YouTube gold.

Clearly, poodles have already been done in without any inbreeding, at all. A cross between a midget and a mosquito, the ankle biting vermin that they are.

I don't think I've ever heard a crag dog owner(or any other dog owner) apologize for their dog's actions. It's always some excuse. "You surprised him...", "He's just excited..."
