Just got a slide scanner and unearthed old slides. Mike Endicott belays Steve Sarns, not Kevin Smyth, who's leading p.1 in Sept. 1982. Good pro. No bolts. No choss.

If you zoom in real closely, you can see the bolts on Reefer Madness.

Slim -- Thanks for paying attention to detail. Nevertheless, the pixels in the enlargement are bigger than any bolt hangers would be. Yes, reefer madness has been around for thousands of years (long before rolling papers were invented), but we climbed this dihedral 16 years before Reefer Madness was bolted.

Climbed this route for the first time today, and the last couple moves to the anchor seemed harder than most of the other 5.10s at the crag. Then I learned that a large rock got pulled out near the top of the route a week ago and wondered if it had been a chockstone in the offwidth crack near the top. That might explain why it's suddenly harder now. Or it could just be that I suck at crack climbing (although others agreed this route was hard for a 5.9).
