Anyone done this? Fun? Good solo day?

lightning ridge is hardly a "solo". mostly 3rd/4th class. this is essentially the ridge connecting the pfief to thunder. thunderbolt ridge is a better ridge "climb", which is up hogum. it has at least 5.4. I've just done lightning via the beatout so I can't say how access is from hogum. if you're doing lightning just do the whole beatout. Fun? if you like ridge scrambling its a blast.

Agreed, if you're talking Thunderbolt Ridge it's a great solo. Although it spooked me pretty good with loose rock and such. Sections of the route are more loose than the Pfeif N. Ridge (in summer). Great setting... few people... and a decent ways from home- good times. But if you're really talking 'Lightning Ridge' it's a great hike.

Thunderbolt ridge to South Thunder/North Thunder and out Bells makes for a good day in an amazing location. A few loose sections were unnerving.

Search for the plane wreck while you're up there, a few big pieces remain.

Also, don't go the wrong way down Bells.

"lightning ridge is hardly a "solo"..."

Nice lame comment. I hope the next time I ask for information about climbing Moonlight or Mother of Pearl someone named Alex or Chris doesn't say "That's not much of a climb."

Tom:
Oh brother. He accidently typed the wrong name of the ridge, which is 4th class. I would hardly say my comment of suggesting his climb wasn't a "solo" ,a 4th class ridge,(where NO ONE uses gear) is comparable to soloing 12d moonlight buttress(where ONE man has soloed it and will likely be the ONLY one). I think the poster would agree that wasn't what he was looking for.

Why don't you offer some helpful info about thunderbolt ridge yourself instead of bagging on mine, where I in fact helped him identify the correct ridge he was looking for.

That's not what he does (Play to your strengths i say).

He was pointing out your judgement on what one person might consider a solo versus another a project. "'hardly' a solo" sounded like a denouncement of what someone might possibly be aspiring to even if it is 3rd/4th class. Something you didn't know prior to his follow on post.

You could have pointed out his mistake without the detracting comment.

Hey Spen you forgot to mention in your post that Mother of Peal has been soloed as well. It's only 11c.
Oh... by the way that is another silly comment, to say that "...(where ONE man has soloed it and will likely be the ONLY one)..." Just because you can't lock it down and fire 12+ with your chalk bag and shoes don't claim that nobody else can.
Who knows??? Maybe someday when you can finally fire "Greasy..." Big in Japan you might be able to solo something, say like the South Ridge of Superior perhaps?

Only godzirra is big in japan (ok, and Drew).

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
