Few folks went after UA here, in my opinion is good for us, customers. UA is just another brand that trying to break in to this "exclusive" extreme market, just like Adidas trying to do as well. If major sponsor was a name like MH or TNF all of us would probably feel little less disscusted about it. That dude is a douche but probably have good intentions, actually give him a credit for all the training because I bet not many of us talking here have enough will to do so, especially me. Problem is the way they put that video together.... It's like a joke, prank video about something very serious.
I'm not to good at writing letters, fact that English is my second language doesn't help either, but if any of you friend decide to write one to one of CEOs, please ask to rearrange website and promo video, because its just wrong.

I would disagree. This is about spending $5.6 mil to top-rope the 14 highest peaks and claiming that it helps "rescue children and families out of poverty." This is all about the dudes ego, and wrapping this "expedition" in the veil of charity is the highest from of hypocrisy. Please, someone explain to me why it would not be better to spend the money and time to directly supporting worthy charities?

NC Rock Climber: I did not try to defend UA, heck no, just saying that they are another brand trying to get be new market that's all.
My opinion is still same: whole idea of spending That money instead of direct support is idiotic and egoistic.

The general excuse for these types of things is that spending 5.6 mil on the expedition might bring in say another 10 mil to give to the charity. However when you sit through 2 min of douchebaggery and dubstep before he mentions the charity and god then you know what the true priority is...

Charities do need to spend money to bring in more money but this is way over the line.

Cool, Lukasz. I think that we probably agree.

barnaclebob, I hear what you are saying about having to spend money to raise funds. However, spending the $5.6 mil to support this guys dream expedition, and then saying it is about charity is total BS. The two have nothing to do with each other. The benefit that the $5.6 mil could have if spent directly FAR outweighs any value that it could have for the charities when it is spent flying the guy around Asia to climb mountains in poor style. This is about ego, about finding a way to support an ill-considered venture in the Himalayas. "Charity" and rescuing "children and families out of poverty" is just marketing BS to make fund raising easier. I would LOVE to see the financials of Mission 14. My bet is that the funds donated to charity will not match or exceed the money spent on the "expedition."

I think this is as ridiculous, gross, and just, well, yeah, as everyone else here does. I am wondering though, would it make a difference at all if the guy didn't claim to be helping impoverished children? If he just came out and said 'i have a shit ton of money, and i want to do this, and this is how i am going to do it...', would it change anyone's opinion ? even a little?

I'd still think he was a douche but wouldn't think anything bad of his sponsors.

It would still be really lame. Claiming the title "WORLD'S TOUGHEST EXPEDITION" when you're spending 6 million dollars to have an army of Sherpas drag you up.

good thing he's sporting Nomics for that snow walking.

Also...I highly doubt UA compensated any money from the 5.6million to the "cause" of human trafikking.

And then the guy has the nerve to ask for more help from us suckers?

Right now they are mainly focused on corporate sponsorship and money from "highly resourced" individuals. Few on this site qualify as sponsors...

With that kind of money I would get a jet pack and really blow the competition away.

a few more million and he could just have some skylifts installed

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
