Children's (??) chalk drawings in the Black Corridor

Hey all -

Was out in the Black Corridor today after work clipping bolts and came across quite the sight - in the lower corridor there was a ton of scrawling on the rock that is in the middle of the lower corridor in what appears to be street chalk.

I don't know if this was climber's kids at the crag, random wandering folks, or what, but definitely not cool. I would hope that the next rain cleans that up, as I didn't have enough water nor a scrub brush to attempt to clean this crap up. Any suggestions on what kind of brush to use to get this stuff off the rock without scraping the hell out of it?

If this was a climber's set of kids...can we please have more common sense than to arm the little ones with street chalk and not clean up after ourselves?

Hope everyone is having a great summer...

I'm indifferent on this issue, but know where this will lead on MP...

How is that chalk, which some may consider 'art', worse than the chalk (not to mention bolts) that climbers leave?

I'll come back after 4 pages and see how it turns out.

Great reply. I am with Matt. If this was in a pristine area, I might feel different. But in the Black Corridor, I could care less. Chalk, bolts, trampled vegetation, worn rock, etc.. it is all about the same to me.

Yep, I'm with Matt and NC... kids chalk dude... no worse than climbers chalk... do you wash all of the routes you use chalk on after you climb?

What if it were blue chalk meant to mark better than tick marks?

what about the grades(downgrades) chalked on the wall at sweet pain wall. I don't understand why someone insists on writing what they feel the grades are on the wall.

That sucks, Wes. Not cool, and I hope that it was not a climber or his/her kids that did this. Despite what a specific area might be like, or its history, we have to do our best to be good stewards of our crags. I'm sure Ranger Nick will see this and we'll see what we can do to clean up the graffiti. Thanks, Wes.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
