Better climbing for everone
|
I have noticed an increase in climbers who think they are better than others in the south and think they can talk shit and talk down to weaker climbers. |

It ain't my fault you fellas come to our rock. I'm sick of all the outsiders especially the yankees coming in and telling me how you do things where you're from. I don't care! This is the south so you better recognize that us southerners have rights that you out of towner rat racing know it alls don't! |

Now I'm gonna go eat some chicken and biscuits, thank you very much!Queue: "A country boy can survive!" Part of the problem, clearly, is being at Sandrock on a Saturday. Sample most any other spot in AL last weekend, aside from LRC, and there was probably no more than two parties at any major crag....probably less given the stifling heat and humidity. With regard to the heckling, as you've seen, it goes on. Friendly heckling is one thing. If you didn't like the other dudes talking smack to the gumbies....well, you have two choices...ignore and move away or confront. My typical group can come off as standoffish. It's mainly a filter for dealing with BS on any end of the spectrum. Everyone isn't going to get along all the time. The biggest problem with the world is the people in it...we all have to to navigate the best way you know how.... As for me, I'll be climbing at the hottest, most chossy, poison ivy infested, backcountry crag I can find til Fall! |

Love it or leave it! |

Lets here some stories then. I don't see what all the fuss is about. |

Southern man better |

There's a route a stone mountain nc that was renamed from the first assent to Yankee Go Home. Ai t that southern hospitality. |

Ross Mac wrote: Calm down bro. Im born and raised in the south and im tired of it because of the type of attitude you have right now. There is no Yankees, southerners, west coasters or any of that crap. We are all americans and we all need to realize that. The civil war is over, let it go. Don't take a post trying to bring us all together and turn in to something negative, relax brother. I did this post speaking as a southern climber to other southern climbers. I don't remember ever saying is was from the North. It doesn't have anything to do with the civil war. Yankees are just different. And I ain't ever call you a ayankee, I just said I'm sick of em! |

Y'all just learn to get along now!, ya' hear! Go climb a rock and enjoy the outdoors. If I run into the guys Ross referred to having issues with placing trad. gear, I'm happy to lend a hand and help out. But, should I run into the other group, the "shit-talkers," I'll suggest they get up earlier and then proceed to have a picnic and gang roping session on their intended route. Haters suck, northern or southern. I love that silly ass yum recipe shite, and grits, and chitlins. Good for you, Ross, for speaking out regarding being friendly and hospitable on the rocks. |

When I was a noob, I showed up at Sandrock without a partner. I met some experienced climbers who recommended I try a route called "Faith" (?). They were super supportive and I learned immensely from them. After 9 years of cutting my teeth in Colorado, I live in NC now. My experience in the South is that it is a small climbing community full of friendly people. It's a nice respite after having climbed for years in Eldo. I've climbed all over the country now (and in several spots in other countries). I hope that some of the posters in this forum realize that the community down here is fantastic, but there's no guarantee that it will always be that way. Be nice, and people will generally act the same. |

Ross Mac wrote:Travel some, get out there. They have their bad eggs just like we do. One of my favorite states is up state NY. Beautiful scenery, awesome climbing, and the people are decent. NEW YORK CITY!!???!! Ross, if Tyler T is the Tyler I suspect he is, he gets out....a lot. He's yanking your chain. Ross Mac wrote:I'm tired of dumb rednecks in the south that give the rest of us bad reputation. Goes the same for up North. And, easy with the redneck comments! ...I resemble that remark. |

Ross Mac wrote:Im done with this post. It was not intended to turn into a north south thing. I made it with good intention to bring us all more together. And as far as the red neck comment goes. Let me be clear, I am a country boy through and through. There is a difference between a country boy and redneck. Br'er Rabbit, I doubt you are in my classification of a redneck. Also, I said up state New York, not NY City. That place is like any other major US city, full of rude ass people. And anything BBQ sounds good to me. Anyway, I am done with how retarded and off topic this post went. It was meant in good heart to bring us together, not pick apart every little thing I say. All I was trying to do was spread a good climbing attitude to everyone. If anyone else has a problem with what I have said. Talk to me about it in person. Ill be at Foster Falls the 12th and 13th. Ill be the 6'8" guy wearing the goofy looking hat. And don't twist this that I am saying in the way of talking crap. |
