Hello! I have the opportunity to go with a small group of people, including two 13-year-olds, to Grand Teton National Park in August. We are doing some backpacking and then heading in to camp at Surprise Lake for a few days. While at Surprise Lake, we'd like to do some climbing. Can any of you point me to routes or areas that are (relatively) easily accessible from Surprise Lake? Especially easier stuff (up to 5.6) that we might be able to take the kids up on. I'm having a bit of difficulty figuring out the best areas, and I appreciate your input. Thanks!

East Ridge of Disappointment Peak, 5.6/5.7. Above and slightly north of the lake. 20min approach, maybe less?
Pick up a guide book in town at Skinny Skis or Teton Mountaineering. Some basic info below.
Not much climbing otherwise if you're camping at the lake.

About the only climbs near by would be on North east side of Disappointment Peak. The big issue is that they are all multi-pitch. About the only two routes I can think of are the Lake Ledges (4th class) and the East Ridge (5.6) or East Chimney (5.6).

Look at Renny's book Picture 65.

Scott and Allen, thanks for the help! I think those are decent options for the party makeup we have. Have a good rest of the summer.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
