Anyone have any idea if you can rent climbing gear in France? We will be traveling for awhile and did not want to haul our gear along if we can avoid it.

thanks for any help!

What kind of gear and what areas in France? Alpine climbing gear (crampons, ice tools, mountain boots)? Trad gear?

You can rent almost anything in Chamonix...but I've never seen actual climbing hardwear (cams, carabiners, etc) for rent. Equipment like boots, crampons, and axes is no problem in the major alpine climbing centers.

Thanks Tom!
was wondering about a rope, draws and cams as we will be traveling for awhile before we get to France and I was hoping of not lugging all that with me.

Doubt that you can rent that sort of stuff anywhere (although I don't usually visit sport climbing areas, so who knows). I'd bring your gear and buy a rope in France if you want to save some weight.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
