The std descent gully takes you back to your packs and is not the one in the picture. It is extremely well traveled and marked.

In 1979, my partner and I "escaped" the upper part of the route by heading right up the ramp at the end of your pitch 5. I remember the 3 S's - Sustained, Slimy, and Spooky. Clipping off to old fixed pins and hoping my partner was belaying me, because he had a bad case of altitude sickness, then we stumbled around Chaos Canyon for 3 1/2 hours in the pitch black; climbing huge boulders and falling face first into a stream. By the time we hit Estes, the bars had been closed for 15 minutes. D**n!

My partner and I got really off route between the 4th and 5th pitch. Extremely scary and chossy. Avoid this mistake and do not follow the crack after 4th belay. Get off crack, and go left fairly soon after leaving grassy belay ledge on to easy, run out face climbing!
