I am relocating to SLC end of this month. Anyone have any beta on where to live in the city or know someone renting a house?

To get beta, you need to give beta. Budget, house size, interests, work location make a difference. In general, if you like to be more city oriented look at Sugarhouse, Liberty Park, the Avenues, or Capitol Hill. If you don't care much about urban walkability and just want to be close to recreation, look at Mill Creek, Holladay, Cottonwood Heights, maybe eastern Sandy. If you hate heat and inversions, look at Summit Park, Jeremy Ranch, or Pinebrook on the way up to Park City.

Avoid everything west of I-15. The city gets more and more stale the further south and west you go from downtown. Turn around when you start seeing scrapbooking supply stores.

Andrew seriously? Nothing better on those few days when it's too rainy to climb rock or ride, the ice isn't in yet and the skiing sucks.

Dissapointing that there are only 2 scrap booking stores inside the belt. Looking for a 2-3 bedroom house. I will actually have a decent job so don't mind spending some money, but what is average for those areas? Will be working just south of I-215. Is there much of a difference between the surgarhouse, liberty park areas?

Gracias

My wife and I just finished renting a 2 bedroom, 1300 square foot house in Holladay (2300 e and 4500 s) for $925 a month. The house was old and junky and the yard looked like a meth house; average rent for Holladay\Millcreek area is around $1200+ for a nice 2 or 3 bedroom with a yard. 12 minutes from my front door to Big Cottonwood Canyon; 16 minutes to Little. 4 minutes to Millcreek (running and mountain biking).

The only difference is how far away from the belt you live. The futher you are from highway access the longer it takes to get to the crags.

No matter the actual neighborhood my suggestion is to get a place that is relatively close to the belt. Sugarhouse, Holliday, Sandy or Cottonwood Heights, all sixes really. Just be close to an on-ramp. Easy and quick access to the Highway is key. The time it take to get to Liberty Park, the Avenues or way up in Cottonwood Heights can sometimes be as long or longer as the time it takes to get around 215 and into the canyons.

I live in Sugarhouse just south of the 7th and 13th ramps and it is perfect. 2 minutes and I am rolling at 70 MPH.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
