Wondering about technical hiking in RR. Please point me in the right direction for a book or web site for beta about approaches, rope lengths, and cold water info, etc. Thanks.

To my knowledge there is no canyoneering guide to RR but Branch Whitney has some detailed downloads of some adventurous hiking.

Some of the most fun you can have though can be just picking a canyon and trying to make your way as far up it as you can. With a little easy scrambling you can make it miles back. One of my favorites was up pine creek taking the right fork (north side) when you get to the cone shaped mescalito. It you go far enough you can get to the base of the Paiute wall. Probably only a handful of people have ever been there.
