In a word I would describe this story and the majority of what I read in the climbing magazines as clueless. The author seems to be confusing the term dirtbagging with camping.

I feel that true "balance" comes from within and is not dependent on how we arrange the objects in our life.

I didn't care for this story either. She lost me in the first paragraph when she said "Back in the 1970s, being a climber was synonymous with a wanderlust, “living in a van down by the river” sort of lifestyle." I climbed back in the 70s. Then, as now, there were climbers from all walks of life, from total thieving bums to Nobel laureates.
And hasn't the "gosh we can have a baby and still climb" story been done a million times already?

Despite that, I thought it was reasonably well written from a technical standpoint, just not really anything to say.

YMMV

The term dirtbag sure has shifted lot in meaning lately...

I normally don't reply to stuff once forums turn negative, and not that this one has too much, but from my perspective editing this piece it's an honest portrayal of a Mother with a kid who balances getting after it climbing and in the outdoors, and not only that, she's become a better climber in the process. That alone was intriguing to me.

There's always a debate to about what a true dirtbag is, and its kind of like debating how dirty the dirt is. It is what it is. We climb and we love it, and why do so many people get caught up in hating on the interweb, what is this the Player Hater's Ball?

Anywho, our entire volume of this latest offering is "The Dirtbag Issue" and there are many perspectives from: husbands, wives, Moms, veterans, desk-monkey dirtbags, workbags, vanbags and many more.

peace,
Luke

So if I read a piece from your zine and don't like it I'm a hater?

Feedback can be precious for a small business, but maybe your mag is just a hobby?

Yeah, doesn't look like dirtbagging to me (and nothing wrong with that). Just growing up and being outdoors, which is great in itself.

I don't know what kind of suburb people find this to be chaotic... if so, too bad. Their loss.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
