For those of you that own Solutions, Teams, or any other high performance downturned shoe, how do they fit you?

As in, how tight do you wear them? How long can you wear them before having to take them off?

Do you size down to the point of pain?

with the solutions, i go 1 and a half sizes down, but i know people alot of people go 2 sizes. get them super tight! a high performance shoe should have that kind of fit, really really snug. i literally have to take off my shoes right after i am done climbing.(usually i will have them off before im even back on the ground!) basically from my experience you want the shoes to be very tight, but not painfull, there is a difference in your shoes being uncomfortable and painfull, comfort is just a sacrifice you have to make if you want the performance from them!

I sized the Solutions tight, but not excruciatingly tight. My street shoe is about a 44.5 and I wear a 42 in Solutions. That makes them tight, but not so tight that I can't wear them for a full pitch. Solutions don't stretch much.

Others may disagree, but I don't see the need to size the new super-aggressive shoes toe-breaking tight. If you want a super precise fit in a flatter shoe (Miura lace-up, for example), you'll have to size it very tight and get your toes curled up in it. But the new aggressive shoes do a good job of feeling precise without requiring your toes to be very curled. In fact, in my Solutions, my toes are bent forward along the shoe's last, but are not really "curled" like they are when I wear my Katanas (or when I tried to wear Miura lace-ups). (Does that make some sort of sense?)

This is all very subjective, and It's difficult to convey how a shoe should "feel" over the internet. I would just say that I did not break my toes when I first put my Solutions on, and in fact worried that they might not be tight enough at first. But, they climbed great throughout their life (they're very climbed-out now) and I never once wished I went tighter, especially after seeing lots of people moan when they took theirs off.

ok, so I'm getting the feeling that sizing down is good in moderation?

If it takes me a little bit of a struggle to get the Solutions on, do you think they're to small?

Can you climb in them? This is the real test, not asking people on the internet whether your shoes fit.

How long have you had them? The Solutions stretch a fair bit, so they should be pretty difficult to get on at first.

I don't have them yet.

Currently I have some 41.5's that have stretched out since December to be a little bit too big. Sometime my heel slips out on really hard heel hooks.

I'm thinking about getting 40.5's for my next pair.

Shoe fit is about so much more than we wear the same size so what size in this shoe do you wear. However, for reference, I have a fairly normal width foot, B, but very low volume. I wear 43.5 La Sportiva trail shoes for running, size 9.5 Nikes for road running. I climb mostly in Mad Rock Flash 2.0 in a sz 9 (all day comfort) though I could easily wear 8.5, sz 9.5 Concepts and sz 9 Shark 2.0, for reference sz 9 relates to 42, my foot measures a 42.5 on a branok (sp?) device, you know the metal plate at every shoe store ever built.

Now for La Sportiva, I wear a 41 Testarossa, 40 Miura, 39.5 Miura VS and would wear a 39.5 Solution (I've even borrowed a pair of 37.5's that had been stretched out and "could" climb in them, but would not want to on a regular basis)

Because of the low volume forefoot I can get away with larger sizes in shoes that have laces while on slippers and velcro shoes I need to size down as much as possible or else there is extra space around my toes, and really if you are looking to spend $170 on a pair of shoes they better fit damn near perfect.

And, yes, when new the shoes you are looking at are really difficult to get into, may I suggest using a piece of plastic bag on your heal to help things slide.

Thanks, I found this really helpful. I think my feet are similar, meaning they are very low volume.

Yeah. Fit is so damn personal. I wear a US 8.5 (41 Euro) street shoe. I have a normal to slightly wide forefoot but low-volume feet overall.

I had to go down to 38.5 in the Solutions before they felt snug everywhere. At that size, they were a struggle to get on and I still didn't love the fit.

I ended up opting for the Teams instead. 5.10 has finally adjusted their sizes so your street shoe size is a reasonable place to start looking for a good fit. I wear 8.5 teams and they're tight enough to hurt if I wear them on long-ish routes, but are otherwise excellent.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
