What are the big bowls on the top of tahquitz/suicide?

you know those bowl like depressions on the top of tahquitz/suicide (or tons of other granite formations)? how do they form? what are they?

They are called Vernal Pools and form from thousands of years of seasonal pooling and subsequent desiccation of surface water. They can be full of life in the spring, providing a habitat for insect and amphibian life that would be threatened in anaquatic environment with fish.

never been, but sounds like solution pockets. bowls in the flat granite? slow erosion from water pooling and runoff?
