Can't remember if it was a holiday or not. We got on some stuff, but there were things we couldn't do because there were people waiting...

Red Rocks. Forcasted highs are 75-80. No rain. Light/moderate wind. Few climbers.

Sounds like you'll get cancer if you go due to the carcinogenic insecticide they are using. Do not go near the cliffs. Its very dangerous. You would think they would do it on a different weekend then a holiday weekend. . . sheesh!

Bob- never speak of this again. There are 20 million people hovering 4 hours west of Vegas, including some climbers, most of whom seem content to go by calendar rather than forecast, and spend most all of their desert trips freezing. Some day this will end. And we'll look back on the present as a sort of golden age. Stay away people. It's just too hot. It's late May, you know.

Stich wrote: Cool. Let us know how it is. Made a trip out there Wednesday. Relatively long hike to get to the rocks (2.5 miles or so). Main trail is pretty easy. Climbing trail short, and a little steeper. Was winded by the time I touched rock, but am 40 and asthmatic. Not a good place for beginners. You will not run into any top ropers, as there' s nothing for them to do but watch! I found 3-4 interesting bouldering areas. Have asked whether they allow bouldering outside the climbing area. Answer pending. Nice long traverse about halfway up the trail, and one big rock I'd like to call "Audrey II" as it looks straight out of Little Shop of Horrors. Other promising areas are at the base of Bombardier Dome. Rock quality on main routes is pretty good--some pretty fresh, so watch out for crumbling holds for a few years. Routes are long and beautiful. Download the guide from Fixed Pin if you haven't. I would guess 2 pitch average. Great views of Pikes Peak, Devil's Head, and such from the whole area, not just the top! Enjoy the park. Once in a lifetime opportunity when a fresh area opens up, especially this close to home. Take care of it, and yourself. Climb safely!
