At least three companions:
One who tastes better than anyone else. Make sure he pays his share of the travel expenses before heading out. The bugs are going to eat him.
One to carry the rope/s.
One to carry the *other* rack - the one you didn't think you would need, but will.

Seriously, the Adks are a tough place to peel down a rack. I generally carry a lot more than I use on any one climb, but end up using on something before day's end.
From experience, I know I use these items the most:
C3s: 000 and 00 ...Yeah, aid only, I know, but seriously necessary for a lot of critical spots, and usually I can double them up or use in conjunction with...
DMM Offsets, bigger brass through all the aluminum. I can't figure out how I lived without 'em.
Tricams: black, pink
C4s: .3 to 3, heavy emphasis on #.5 to #2

What Jay said. Variety.

The Adirondacks is an incredibly broad climbing area with a lot of different climbs of greatly differing character. Even at a particular crag (e.g. Beer Walls) different climbs can have quite different nature and take different gear.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
