Equinox rock; gate at entrance road is closed. Anyone have info on when this might re-open? Is there any type of schedule for this being open/closed? Thanks!

Probably not super cool to talk about that particular crag on the web. I'd consider deleting your post. Let's keep it on the DL until we've got access worked out with the DNR.

The logging company that leased the land from the DNR for timber harvest controls/locks the gates.

As long as nobody is spouting off judgement there should not be any problem discussing the gate closure. WCC is working with the company to hopefully reopen the vehicle access. They have no problem with foot access, so if you are willing to hike, you can still climb there.

I think you have this area confused with another... this isn't the equinox boulder at gold bar.

You're right. I didn't read it carefully enough.

Hey Calvin...

I think it opens during the weekday more or less, and shuts at night and weekends at times. Not an exact schedule to go by, but be careful because you can get locked in after dusk.

I think there is some pro beta that allows for less restrictive access... but you gotta know the right people...

@morganh please, help me understand why people are so secretive about equinox. How would posting this question effect access?

There is no guidebook, but Equinox is far from a secret crag anymore. The issue of secrecy arose prior to 2009 when the main avenue for access crossed private property. During that time traffic began to increase and some vandalism occurred on the property, both of which jeopardized future access. Because of that, the newfound stewards and developers of the Equinox had significant reason to maintain a level of secrecy.

In recent years the main access has been the logging roads off of old day creek road as opposed to the private crossing previously used, making the issue of secrecy less relevant today.

The Equinox has become a popular and well known crag for hard sport climbers throughout the northwest, and there is no longer anything secret about it.

The DNR doesn't close the gate because they want to keep climbers out, it's closed to prevent damage and theft of equipment used for logging.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
