Will you miss MP.com app?

Before the app even came out, I did a 2-year road trip guided almost exclusively by saved offline pages from mp.com on my smartphone. Twice I settled in a new state and had to figure out climbing around me from scratch - same thing. The app made this process even more convenient.
In the last 4 years I visited somewhere between 100 and 200 new climbing areas in US, Canada and Mexico. I only had to buy a guidebook twice - in Yosemite and RRG.

In 95% of cases climbing with an app feels more adventurous than with a guidebook. In rare cases you are lucky to find a map of the area and sometimes there would be a picture of the rock with a route line, but if anything the app challenges your ability to figure out where you are, look at the rock, recognize classics, figure out approximate difficulty and then compare it to the list of stars and numbers. It's a very fun process.

real quick, what if you paid for the app a year or two ago when it still cost money? Like, I have already paid 1o bucks.

Doesn't matter. You have to pay again if you want to keep it. Apple won't tell MP who already paid for the app.

Reprinting the same crusty old descriptions and photos doesn't constitute an update. I'm glad I borrowed one and didn't have to spend money on that thing.

The wannabe-alpine training ground manifesto was cute though.

Just as an example of its usefulness-I was in Indian Creek few weeks ago at the Bridger Jacks shitter. An attractive lady showed up an obviously was having problems with the map next to the bathroom. She was looking for Selfish Wall (I think). She said it was not on the map. Her friends were waiting on her there and she had no idea where it was. I looked it up in the guidebook in the car. It was not in there either. As she walked back to her car dejected I remember I downloaded the Moab area a while back on my phone. I called her back over and there it was. I gave her directions and we made sweet love. Just kidding, she thanked me and she was off to enjoy her trip I suppose.

Being all the way out there without cell service, I would assume $10 would be worth it to her now.

Obviously there could have been better pre-planning, maybe her friends were d-bags and wanted her to wander aimlessly, I'm not looking to troll here. This is just a small way the app came in very handy.

I essentially used it all trip to find climbs around Moab, Canyonlands, etc. Doesn't replace guidebooks, but is another way to sort through tons of data when looking for certain types of climbs.

Sounded like you should've just offered to climb w her instead.

For me it is the comments for a route. Those can have more important information than the route description. There isn't a guide book out there that can provide a comments section.

a 25 cent bathroom trip sounds too speedy, like it might be out before i'm ready

Plus, i like to log on to mountainproject.com with my $10 app while I spend $10 on the crapper, get my $$$$$$$$$ worth

Those would be the moves of a much more suave man than myself. Besides we were leaving, she was just showing up. It wasn't meant to be I guess. She also had a man with her already...a five pound dog.

I would like my royalty check to come to my home since I have submitted pics, route beta and new areas free of charge! Now that i will have to pay to use this app i only think its fair. Thanks MP! I look forward to receiving payment.

Regards,

Brent
