Told you can't climb because of a photo shoot? How do you respond?

Public or private land? Screw them if public,,they should have the flexibility to avoid others by off hours or months, otherwise they should be paying theBLM some kind of user fee with a pre-use notice sent out to all climbing links months ahead. Tough luck for them,,it's only pics and we can be in the background if we like.

Edit: Sorry this post ran crazy,,it wouldn't post at all, then went wild on me here. Thanks for administrator who dumped the multiple posts.

First, I hope this doesn't auto-replicate like woodchuck's comment.

Second, I would be upset if a whole area esp w/ multipitch got shut down for a business enterprise, when there is a single climber on one route. Beats the purpose of being unshackled as a free soloist when you have a possee complete with helicopters.

I felt the exact opposite way with BCA who was complaning about church gangbangers already on a single one-pitch route, and the guide eating tuna. I think in that case, she should piss off and find one of the other 1,999 routes to climb.

Well I'm a big old hard ass so I would first threaten to hold my breath until I died and if that didn't work I would bang my fists on the ground while shitting myself.

You could always threaten to jump in front of a tall building and wait for an earthquake.

I only read the op. My immediate response: "That's nice. Now outta my way". Climb that route no matter what.

Beside, that punk already effed up one desert tower.

In this particular instance I'd probably say something like "Go Away". And then point out that I'm one of the owners of the cliff. (Big sign at the parking lot has all our names on it..) And then turn it around on them, and maybe work the bribe angle.

On second thought I'd probably just smile and walk on past.

Could you imagine the radio call: "Um...hey Alex, can you just chill for a few? We have to turn off the cameras while we work out a permit issue."

Exceptions to this are North Face and Adidas. Whoopty-Do, you were unable to climb a trade route because someone is in your way. Don't ever go to Yosemite or Zion or you will spend the next year whining on forums with a bunch of like-minded individuals.
Hey Joe Mills! You certainly know of what you speak. My question: why does someone so talented have to hog a trade route?

Hopefully the video they were shooting will have the phone number for rock and resole edited in. That would be a public service and forgivable.

Then let's say you hike up the Castleton talus cone to do fine jade, but two chicks with radios tell you you can't because some prominent free soloist is getting filmed by a helicopter? How to you respond?
If it was on public property and I really wanted to climb there, I would ignore them and climb anyway. If they want guaranteed privacy they can shoot in front of a green screen.

Sorry, I couldn't let that comment (from a few pages back) go by without emphasis. Sums things up perfectly in my estimation.
I'd hope that it was not the soloist's idea in the first place to gather a film crew and post radio women at the base to shoo others away - rather, some film student's term project for which he/she thought it would be cool to close down a cliff and film something sensationalist so that the audience would not be able to take their eyes off the screen even if it were documented badly.

Under that assumption, and also assuming I'd gotten up on the right side of the bed that morning, my initial approach would probably have been to go find the "soloist" and ask why he/she was going along with this stupid idea. If I got up on the other side, I'd probably just walk past the walkie talkie women without so much as acknowledging them and rack up at the base of the climb.

I was running the carriage road at the Gunks a while back. Blocking the overcliff road was a big photo shoot going on, replete with smoking hot models in bathing suits, makeup people, those fancy umbrella lights... the whole nine yards. I ran straight through the middle of the shoot, and as I approached I shouted "Sorry I'm late everyone! We can get started now!" They all laughed. Even the photographer. I sure would love to have a shot of me running through that thing. If you're the photographer and you read this, email me!

WTF? where is this coming from? how does this commment have anything to do with the posting? just another asshole? WTF? I still think public lands belong to all climbers and not reserved for private photo shoots.
