Supple Rope

I am looking for a soft/supple rope. I'm jist not a fan of stiff ropes. I would go as small as 9.8 but am really looking for a 10.2 or so. I loved my Bluewater Accelerator 10.5 That thing was supple and handled perfectly and wore crazy good.

Some ropes I've considered..

New England Apex or Glider (anybody used these?)
Bluewater Eliminator (heard the sheath doesn't wear well)
Sterling Velocity (threads lately aren't boosting my confidence here)

Finally... a middle mark or preferably bipattern rope is a huge benefit since I like multipitch and easily finding the middle to rap.

At 9.7 several great options.

Blue Water lightning pro.
Beal Booster
PMI something.

Blue water my first choice. They all handle great though.

tendon ambition 10.2mm ...

beals are usually decently supple as well

mammuts and maxims/new england are generally known to be/get stiff

I've got an Edelweiss 9.8 and it's more supple than most other ropes I've handled. No middle marker though.

I have a 8.9 mammut serenity and its like silk. I also have a 10.2 new england rope thats more supple than sub 10mm ropes i`ve handled.

I have a bluewater eliminator and I have used and abused that thing for the past 3 years and there is still no sheath damage even though the first two years I had it I wasn't smart enough to protect the edge. I use it just about every day during the summer weather permitting, and 2-3 days a week for the spring and fall. If you want a 10.2 I'd say go for it.

I don't know if they're still available, but I have a Metolius Monster 10.2 that has been a limp noodle since day 1.

My Sterling Marathon Pro 10.1 has endured four years of abuse and is on the floppy side.

$109 right now

If you want a 10.2, I'd really recommend the Mammut Supersafe. It's burly, yet handles and feels like a thinner rope. I've never had my my hands on a rope over 10 that feels as nice as the supersafe. It's expensive but it's nice to know that it will hold up to severe abuse. Here is mine taking it like a champ in the Fishers...

the OP isnt asking about 8.9mm ;)

i own 5 mammuts and have used most of the common maxims ... they arent particularly supple IME ;)

New England Glider 9.8 is the shit. Also the 9.4 "one-over" new england is really nice but doesn't wear as well.

So, in other words, any rope, every rope is just the one for you.

Sure sounds like it ;). Yeah 8.9 is a bit too skinny. I'm going to attempt to find a NE, Bluewater, or Mammut all in 10.2 to try out. Thanks for the replies! I know it's all subjective in some ways but it does help.

the supersafe is an awesome rope but supple isn't one of the words I would use to describe it.

Really. I think it was the original source of the term "handles like a cable".

I've got a supersafe as well, and I love it for bigwall/aid climbing because its the only rope to pass the UIAA sharp edge test. I've jugged a good number of pitches on it with little to no fuzz. That said, it feels like a 10.5mm rope, and is pretty damn stiff.

Haha. Sounds like I'm outvoted on this one. I need to get out and scope out some more stuff!

Anything Mammut kicks ass. Have a 10.5 workhorse from them that is great, and my friends 10.2 (not the supersafe) is amazing as well. Even feeds through a grigri2 nice. Also my 9.5 Infinity from them kicks ass, but that's skinnier than you want.

Over the years I have owned 5 different Mammut ropes. Strong, sturdy, reliable, long-lasting? Yes. Handles like a cable, gets even stiffer over time? Yes. Supple? Not even close.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
