Nikon coolpix aw100?

I've been looking for a rugged point and shoot. Does anyone have any experience with this camera? Curious about the water proofing, zooming sounds while shooting video and how well the GPS function preform.

No experience with it personally, but check out dpreview.com. They have in-depth reviews of lots of gear.

Performed great for me in Ouray and Denali. I bought it because it has no moving parts. That's good for cold. Battery always stayed charged for me. Haven't used it under water - but it's done fine in snow. The GPS is fine, but it will suck your battery if you leave it on. Found it to not be any advantage myself.

Had one for a few months now, takes great pictures and video for a point and shoot. Don't really use the GPS function much and haven't had it out ice climbing with me to have any personal observations. A friend of mine has the same camera and he hasn't had any water issues with it. You will hear the camera zoom in video mode.

I've got one and have been happy with it. Don't really use GPS or underwater but I use it while climbing and it's worked really well.

Have had one for about six months. Seems durable, but have never tested it. Photos sometimes have spots even though the optics appear clean and the spots disappear on the next photo without any intermediate cleaning. No lens cover, which kind of sucks and requires constant cleaning if you don't keep it in a separate case.

Takes good video and is easy to use/navigate.

I got my wife one for Xmas, and I will say I am impressed with
the quality of the photos. It also seems to manage light well in outdoor dark shadow / super bright light situations.
Super light weight as well.

Nice little camera for the money, Its easy to pack and super durable. Right now my wife has mine up on Anconcagua. 2 batteries for a 16 day trip in cold temps but if the past performance is any gauge it will be fine.

The lens cap issue is easy to get around. The camera comes with a snap on filter adapter. Any Ritz or Wolf or Best Buy will usually stock a video camera lens cap that snaps right in to this filter ring. Easy as that!

This camera impressed me when I accidentally dented it on its 2nd outing ever. I was on sheeps nose in the south platte (Colorado) and for some reason I stuck it in the back pocket of my jeans... Then I sat down on that knobby crystally granite and later when I took out the camera there was a pin point dent right in the middle of the front case. Still works perfect, even after stupid operator error.

Oh yeah, I never use the GPS either.

The GPS bit is a bit misleading.

The camera will tag images you take with a lat/long coordinate but you can't use the camera as an actual GPS unit for navigation.

With that said, my wife enjoys hers, pretty burly camera that works well in cooooooold weather.

Good camera! I bought mine after destroying 4 other coolpix cameras. This one seems more durable then the others. You will hear it zoom in and out while shooting video, and I have no clue what the GPS is all about. Greta camera to throw in a backpack or a pocket on a trip.

My buddy takes one canyoneering with us. It takes excellent pictures for a Point and Shoot, but falls flat a bit in low light.

Waterproofing is good, but put some RainX or something on the lens if you care. If you get it wet water beads up on the lens like MAD.
