Any Problems w/ Crampon Linking Bar in Last Peg?

Hello MP community,

I just got my new La Sportiva Barunste Boots and fitted my standard Grivel G12's to them. It is a good fit and all, but the linking bar is on the LAST peg. I will be going on an expedition to the Cordillera Blanca later this year to climb for a month with this setup.

I assume that even with a rigid boot having a max-extended linking bar puts a lot of stress on it. I am wondering if anyone out there has any stories about failed linking bars from sustained use or if perhaps I am worrying about a non-issue. I really don't want to be the guy with a broken crampon at 19k!

get longer bars if you are freaked, they are cheap as.

Joe, thanks for posting. Although the grivel manual doesn't mention it, I will surely purchase the long bars and bring the originals along as spares. As Gwut mentioned they are only $15 or so.

One thing you may want to try, which Grivel recommends, is if your G12's are equipped with a "regulation spring" to adjust the bar length, you can remove it and replace it with a bolt and nut to retain the bar. This should give you two additional sizes over the spring.
