What would be a good mountain to be my first summit? This winter I'd like to learn to ice climb ... I'm a 5.8 climber, top roping, learning to lead. Any info on guides would be appreciated too. Thanks

Where do you live?

And what kind of climbing you seeking to do?

Mountaineering / Apline climbing?

Technical ice climbing?

Mixed climbing?

I live in Wisconsin so I'll be flying somewhere ...

I like to maybe do mixed so I could get a taste ..

I also backcountry ski so mountaineering would help..

I was looking at mt hood, as a starter with a guide .

Why not combine the trip and take a winter mrountaineering course on rainier? I took it, and while we didn't have snow that was stable enough for a summit attempt, I learned a crapload of great skills. 6 days I think, and a great investment on many levels.

Ithink a 6 good day beginners mountaineering course would be the best idea. Thanks for the replies
