A Resolers advice to no one in particular...

Don't fucking wait so damned long before sending your shoes in!

Do yourself and your favorite Resoler a big favor. Shoes are EXPENSIVE, resoles aren't real cheap either, and the life of your shoes depend on it!

Keep an eye on the toe area of your shoes where MOST of the shit takes place. BEFORE the rubber wears down to the GLUE LINE (where the sole/SOUL? meets the shoe), or BEFORE the tip of the toe blows through, send/take/bring those fuckers in!

As soon as it blows through (Seems to be when the majority THINKS it's time for a resole), the shoes are in trouble and most likely will not be able to accept as many resoles (If any) had the timing been different.

This has been a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT and my personal opinion.

I do NOT represent any other Resolers.

LOL!

Another pet peeve.

Synthetic shoes, foot stink and BABY POWDER. OMFG! But I'll save that for another RANT later on.

What is your phone number?

This is NOT a post promoting my business, so phone numbers/website info can be gotten elsewhere.

Or just PM...

LOL!

But seriously, I am NOT trying to drum up business here. I am sincerely TRYING to help those out there that seem to think that you get more value for your buck by wearing your shoes down to nothing. It's actually the opposite of course. As explained above.

Serious question, How are you suppose to tell if they are ready to be sent in? I don't want to send in shoes that still have 25-50% life still in the rubber.

Good call. I think it's tough to tell, for me anyway, when it's the perfect time to send them in. I can't tell when the rubber is getting really thin as it quite frankly, looks the same to me until I blow the toe.

This is how I do it, so take my opinion for what it is, but if i can move my big toe up and down and see it moving in the rubber quite a bit (judgement call), I usually send it in. Granted, that method may be not be great for thinner rubbers like the 5.10 Teams, but it's worked for me on other shoes.

I'm actually interested to hear a rant about why you don't like synthetic shoes. If it's not too far from the scope of the discussion on this thread, please post about synthetic shoes.

"How are you suppose to tell if they are ready to be sent in?"

It's in the original post.

Watch the GLUE LINE where the sole meets the rand (Shoe). When the sole wears down to the GLUE LINE, you should have sent them in a few climbs BEFORE that. Meaning, DON'T wear them down past the glue line. At that point you're into the rand of the shoe.

Right, I'll just go fire up my time machine to go back just before I got to the glue line...

Telling when it's going to blow through the top/toe area can be a little more difficult. A lot of the time you can FEEL where there is a weak spot by pressing and feeling around, etc...

MANY other times, it's pretty damned OBVIOUS. It will look THIN and WORN. LOL!

Often by the first or second resole, rands/toe caps are in order. Sooner than later with this issue, is also a good idea.

To the BACK of the "GLUE LINE" for you!

But what you wrote is way toooooooo often the case. When it's ALREADY HAPPENED!

LOL!

Locker you should post up some photos where the owner waited too long. Visual examples would be helpful. I know my shoes are starting to get worn but I don't know if they have a few months left in them or a few pitches.

"Locker you should post up some photos where the owner waited too long".

I actually thought the same thing and might just do that. Could save some poor suckers from ruining their shoes.

But I am enjoying the GLUE FUMES at the moment, thus haven't the time. But it IS a good idea, and I DO think I will give it a go at some point on this thread.

THANKS!

Haha, I always feel bad for resolers when I see a toe bust through the end of the shoe and the person says "guess it's time for a resole." Little does that person know that their shoes are fucked!

I send my shoes in way before I have to, just because I know it saves me time and money in the long run. One pair of shoes and 4 resoles equals ~$300. 5 pairs of shoes equals ~$500 or more!

I've got a decent camera and the know-how to use it, Locker, so hit me up if you want help with the digital photos. You are quite the accomplished photog, of course, but Daguerreotypes aren't really the rage any more.

^^^

Fucking some FUNNY shit right there!

And you SHOULD be able to get at least 20 more pitches out of them before THROWING them in the GARBAGE!

LOL!

And THANKS Tim!

PS...

"Mark" called and said he'll finally be ready to answer the question, "WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO MARK HAMILL?"
