Rumors are there are 2 or 3 in the plans. Rumors are 1 just south of downtown Denver, 1 out by Golden and 1 in Co Springs. My running joke has always been to build one at the base of Cactus Cliff for those 5 days a year that Shelf Road is unclimbable!

I've suggested that perhaps there should be a forum section just for indoor climbing.

Indoor climbing will be here longer than it takes to replace all the 1/4" iron angles out there! :D

I don't know anything about the one in the Springs, but the Golden one has a fall opening date & the Denver one has an address. Rumor has it another front range gym is looking for an expansion though.

I know of Earth Trex in Golden and a rumor that Movement is looking to open a Denver Location. As far as the Colorado Springs Location, I am the (soon-to-be) owner of it. Pure Bouldering Gym will be (as the name suggests!) a bouldering only gym. We are planning on the grand opening to be sometime in July/early August. Check us out on FB if you are interested. www.facebook.com/purebouldering

First off, does anyone have the number for Rock and Resole?

Second, someone already came up with my FAVORITE answer and this morning it has me laughing, again!

Question: What's most important to you as a climber when climbing indoors?

Answer: Nothing!

LOL!

No... this means more people are climbing, gyms are churning out new climbers and will soon see gyms as a training facility and move on to real rock. Few people these days start out on real rock due to its remote locations and necessity to start leading before practice on TR unless 2 lead climbers let you tag along.

Quality of movement, especially on hard problems (most setters suck at setting difficult problems that don't involve dynos/hucks, hand-foot matches, and other BS I never actually do on real rock) Climate control. Child control. Maintenance of existing routes/tape. (tons of times tape goes missing and you'll go "wow that was hard for V-whatever" only to find out it's because a hold was missing tape. Not an issue when projecting, but a big issue when trying to arrange 4x4s or even warming up) If there is a youth team, the coaches need to ensure they aren't taking over entire sections of wall and that the younger kids undestand ettiquette (not jumping in front of people who are queing, etc)
Agree with this guy!

I don't work for the gym, but I really like my gym Rockquest in Cincinnati. One great thing is the hours - they are open from 10am-10pm everyday, but close at 9pm Sunday. Which means if you want to go when it's not busy or eary, you can. And go there all weekends and late. Some gyms only open in the afternoon. And they stay open late, and weekends. Best of all, they change the routes often (rotate wall changes about 3 months, change boulders about every 2 weeks), and they are really interesting. They have toprope (for those lazy, brainless days), lots of lead walls, including roofs and bulges (to build up to a roof), and great anvil bouldering for those solo days. They just got an autobelay, but I would rather boulder than autobelay. Things are just more social if you climb routes w/ a partner and on solo days boulder (people will start giving beta and you can talk to them).

It has the best routes... I hear that the best walls for routes is a platform that is flat - free from too many natural looking features, so the routesetter has greater discretion and freedom to set the route. It's a great gym. On weekends the problem is kids' parties, with parents clapping when a kid makes it up the jug haul, which is rather distracting when doing a hard lead. I guess it's good to learn to climb w/ distractions (such as bees, wasps, spiders outside). Also on those days I feel better about my climbing ability b/c the kids are just screwing around.

One good/bad thing about RQ is that it has beginner routes - which means lots of people will start climbing, think it is fun, and continue to progress thru the easy routes to improve. I didn't start climbing until I got to RQ last year, but prior to that I tried to climb at a college wall - where they start at 5.10 and obvioulsy i didn't get very far and thought climbing was no for me. W/ easy routes I was able to use them to improve.

Tons of females climb at my gym... more females than males I think. Some sleek, some not so sleek. Yeah, there are those emo staff at gyms, but for the most part they are realy nice.

Most important is what the climbing Betties are wearing...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
