Link, which uses the FBI uniform crime reports for data. "There is no pattern, there is no increase," says criminologist James Allen Fox of Boston's Northeastern University, who has been studying the subject since the 1980s, spurred by a rash of mass shootings in post offices. The random mass shootings that get the most media attention are the rarest, Fox says. Most people who die of bullet wounds knew the identity of their killer.... |

David Sahalie wrote: She can have it in the car, just not concealed on her person. In any case, I doubt a single woman pulling a gun when threatened is going to get her charged with having the gun. No,no, no! I've got a national state by state guidebook that lists all the very restrictive rules of how and where you can carry a gun in your car. Some states like Connecticut you can't at all, nothing. You gotta carry a printed out gun show or out of state location to show the police. You can't stop overnight, you can only gas up and get outa the state as fast as possible,,other states as restrictive,,so the gun carrying in a case thing won't work for many many places. Stick to something besides a gun.,,,,you're camping so some massive camping knives would be understandable. |

I'm pretty damn far from a Fox News kinda guy, but it does no good to go blindly into the night. It's like roping up on a 5.5. I'm not going to fall, so why should I do it? Because you never know. |

Sadly - the world and people aren't getting any safer or better these days! And I know that's a very sad thing. While 99% of the climbers I have met and know ARE extremely nice people - today, one can't be sure of anything. What do these people DO for showers, medications, banking (with no local bank account established - rely on cash, ATM or credit/debit cards?), etc. Cooking in inclement weather would be tricky - would need some type of tarp or set up to get out from under the rain, etc. to cook. It wouldn't be SO bad I would imagine if one had a decent van in which to sleep in, keep all of their gear and supplies. Sleeping in a car - aka: compact car - prob wouldn't be much fun tho per se. ???Sleeping in a car is fine, shower at 24 hr gym, eat out |

And I know that's a very sad thing.Actually the crime rate in the United States has be steadily and steeply declining since the early 90's. The reporting of crime has increased greatly, however. But I digress. |

Now all I think about is when I can get back to the rock or why am I driving to work its so nice outside, I should be climbing. Wanting to get out of here, travel and climb everywhere and anywhere Im considering the dirt bag life style for a little while. My question is there any other women in this forum who have done this on their own? If so please share stories. What things do I need to be practical about? How much money to save up, food, hammock/camping or just sleeping in the car? I am thinking of trying it out for 3 months to get the feel of it. Really the only thing I am nervous about is doing this on my own but I feel like it would be a phenomenal experience! The whole "by yourself" thing is overrated. I have spent over 14 months on the road by myself. The worst part about road tripping is the constant partner roulette. I spend as much time looking for partners as I do driving to new locations. If you can line up a partner or two for the whole trip you will be able to concentrate more of the trip actually climbing. Many climbers plan their trip around the crags they want to visit. Unless I have a specific goal/ climb I want to do, I plan my trip around partner availability. I try to find partners before I leave for my trip, and then I climb wherever they are interested in climbing. In the end, if you are hooking up with other road trippers, you will be climbing at a world-class location regardless. Road trippers dont normally go to some random crap town crag when they can go anywhere. That said, it is not that hard to find partners in major areas such as Yosemite if you are solo and you know how to climb. |
