Joe's Valley Solo

What should I expect from a Joe's Valley trip the 2nd week of April? Since I am going alone I will be depending on there being others to provide spots and addtl pads. Ive never been there so I don't know the scene there really and if this is a feasible way to go about a trip there. I'm not really dead set on Joe's but I'd really like to make it happen if possible.

Don't rely on others in summer. However, the landings in joe's are amazing. Post in the forum looking for a partner. By the way, hit up the handcrack if you can. It's freaking awesome.

During the weekend you'll certainly run into other climbers there. Just drive up and down right and left fork, there will be plenty of other people up there.

During the week, you may get lucky and have others out there. If not, there's plenty of stuff that can be done solo out there.

You should be totally fine. How many pads are you going to take? Joes tends to have really good landings under many problems (talus field bouldering it ain't), and many problems are of reasonable height. If you can take two pads, or even just one really big pad, you should be able to safely and comfortably boulder, solo, on at least half the problems you would want to try. Lots of problems are ultra-roadside, so if you have multiple pads, it is still easy to shuttle them to the base of the problem from the car. Even with one pad, you'd be pretty OK-- there are plenty of moderate height or short problems with flat dirt landings...certainly enough to keep one busy for over a week.

I'm not sure about weekdays, but on weekends there are guaranteed to be lots of people around, so long as the weather is good. As is the norm, bouldering areas are way easier to visit solo, since you don't need to find a partner, but instead can just join up with whatever group is on a problem you wish to try, and everyone is happy to have you pad(s) added to the pile.
