I got my hands on a North Face A5 simple double fly but it did not come with the pole to push out the fly. I was wondering if anyone could measure theirs so I can order a custom pole.
Thanks a ton.

I have the same deal going on. Any info would help.
Maybe the Runout Customs folks would know?

Maybe take a tape measure to the inside & add a few inches, then trim to length? Easy peasy.

Yikes, no! It is actually much longer than you would think! The pole should go up and out roughly at 45 degrees, and should push the fly something in the order of a foot away and out from the middle outside portaledge support strap.

My pole is in storage in California so I can't measure it for you, but I am guessing it is about nine or possibly even ten feet long. Geez, I am wondering if it might even be twelve feet long? I used it for the big cheat stick move on Scorched Earth. It fits around my Fish double ledge inside my yellow TNF-A5 fly, the one with the floor and the doors on both ends.

Why don't you write Russ Walling at FISH, and ask him? That's where I got my fly pole from. He can tell you right length, and probably still also even sell you the pole. That's where I got mine, and it's the perfect length.

^^^ Here above is a shot before we bailed from Lost World after a week of storms. You can get some idea of how long the ledge pole inside of the fly needs to be. Same TNF-A5 double fly with floor and Fish double ledge. A Fish double is a bit smaller than an A5 double ledge.

^^^ Here above is a shot from Liver Ledge, down and left of Heart Ledge. If you're hauling lots of stuff up the fixed ropes to the base of the Heart, this is a good place to hang out and stay out of everyone's way.

These A5 ledge flies with the floors are tricky to set up. You need to shorten up the six suspension straps on the ledge, and then put the ledge under the fly through the side door. You have to tilt the ledge up on an angle, then slide it in. Once in, you can lengthen the straps as you see in the photo directly above.

You need the straps fairly long so that the zippers on the doors on each end are fairly taut. Otherwise the zippers will end up in kind of a C-shaped crescent, which will allow the water to pool in the crescent, and enter the fly through the zipper. Obviously I found this out the hard way.

Anyway, that gives you some idea of why the fly pole needs to be fairly long, eh?
