BD X4 on BD site

I was able to get a little info about the release date from an REI live help agent. REI appears to have the product on file and are expecting to receive a shipment on April 16th. In addition, you will probably be able to order the X4s before that date (but wont actually get the cams until REI receives them from BD). I assume that other vendors will have a similar timeframe

Black Diamond X4's expected to be delivered to REI on April 16th

So, does anyone know if the X4's will be made in Utah or not? If they were american made that would attract me a little more. I'm excited that BD is stirring up the 4 lobed micro-cam market a little bit but in many ways I'd prefer to give my business to a company like Metolius when I can.

Well it originally said "available late march/early May" so thats not too surprising of a change.

The sooner you get out climbing the better...IMHO.

Even with a set of one type, if you dig thin cracks you'll end up with doubles anyhow.

My rack is a mix of Metolius and BD. I think they compliment each other.

Ran into some BD employees out in J-Tree on Friday and they were climbing on them. Got to handle them and they look sexy. Didn't have any of those Alien contraptions to compare em' to, but had my MC's. I'd say they're comparable, but not sure I'd pay $10 extra per cam or whatever they're going to go for.

$70 for a cam that has basically been out for years now? I think I'll stick with Metolius, just like I did when the C3 came out.

While similar I'm not sure I'd say "been out for years now". X4 will differ in: Sizing, Cam Angle, trigger/sheath design. Certainly in the same category and for some not a reason to dole out more cash. For others, perhaps something they've been wanting. I know for me, all the differences listed above are "cons" with the Mastercam. I have some and certainly use them BUT I never liked the Mastercam sizing (or ANY metolius size run in that purple to red range) and I was never a fan of the trigger "sheath".

Climbed with a full rack fo these things today, they were pretty darn cool. Probably worth the extra money over the Mastercam.
