Descent Shoes for walk off suggestions

I wear a huge shoe, 13/14. So my typical approach shoe (scarpa zen) is rediculously heavy and bulky to carry on a long route for descending. I have looke at the sportiva Vertical K, but between how expensive they are and how ugly I've been looking elsewhere. I can get these: columbia.com/Men%E2%80%99s-…

They are even uglier than the Vertical K's, but I can get a pair for around $30 bucks. Anyone ever tried these? They weigh around the same as the Vertical K and have a clip in point built in, not sure if they fold up like the sweet sportiva shoes made for descending (not made anymore though!).

How tough are your feet? I like these from Merrell , but they're very minimalist

I am a little bitch about my feet, especially since my big toe on my left foot seems to come out the joint or something easily. I think it's from years of kicking around on a skateboard. I have very long toes, like almost 3" long, so I prefer a shoe that is a little stiff. I don't think the columbias will be very stiff, but better than hiking down in climbing shoes and definately better than dragging my 20 lb zens!

Have you seen the new-ish Evolv Cruzer approach shoe? I haven't tried them, but they are lightweight and I've heard good reports on them.

I have seen them, I thought they would be perfect when I first saw them, but I heard that they don't last very long, which I can't get over considering how relatively expensive they are.

I guess I'm a cheapskate, but for something I'll wear only once in a while I don't want to spend much, unless I know they will last a long time, or they are capable of being used for more than just a walk off shoe.

I think lightweight and durable don't normally go together!

They're a bit more than $30 but check out the shoes by VivoBarefoot: vivobarefoot.com/us/mens.html

I have the Evos, which fold up and pack down very well. I wear a size 13 and they take up hardly any space in my pack. Plus, they weigh almost nothing. The tread on the Evos isn't great for loose trails but they do have a trail version if that matters to you.

If I'm going to pay over a hundred dollars for a shoe that i'm only going to do walk offs in then I expect it to last (be strong and light), if I buy a $30 shoe for walk offs then I expect it to be light and cheap! If the $30 shoes last a couple of seasons I'll be happilly surprised, if not it's not a big deal. If $100 shoes don't last a couple of seasons I'll be quite upset.

I have a similar sized foot. The Scarpa Crux are comfy and not too heavy. They're also a real approach shoe, unlike some of these other suggestions.

I use my Vibram Five Finger Treks - they work fine and are very light and easy to carry either in a climbing pack or just clipped to my harness. Oh size 13 foot

I can't remember the model but I have the Merrell shoe that has no cushion or support. They are super light and slim.

actually I think these are the ones and on sale for size 14

Evolv cruzer durability -evolv added extra stitching with their current version, much more durable.

5.10 Daescent, I use these.

Light enough you can put em in your pack, hike with your regular shoes if its a longish approach with a heavy pack. use the daescent for the decent, then hike out with your regular shoes.

Super light shoe but durability could be an issue.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
