Email from my dad today: "To tether or not to tether that is the question. Nis nobler to climb completely free and unencumbered in body and spirit? Or is wiser and more calming of spirit to tether, knowing tools will not be dropped and a minor slip will be arrested? To tether or not to tether that is the question?" My response: "Tis nobler in the mind to ascend freely, unrestricted? To scorn and abhor the tethers that so mimic the ties of society?" Then Simon chimed in: "It may just be that I was the uncanny type of fool Who belives that he himself could never drop a tool But a fool I am not, for a fool never learns And now, for a BD tether I yearn" To which I responded: "I stood there, giving an attentive belay The pitch took a little while, my mind was away From on high I heard a shout! I look up from my trance, and there was no doubt! A tool was flying, through the air, that inseparable extension to Simon's hand came loose, it was laughable! When the chuckling subsided and logistics had to be dealt with I realized that this situation should be handled seriously, with pith! If we had been up high on a face, our livelihoods depending on that holy extension we surely would have been promised an epic, with such a minor lapse of attention!" To which Simon retorts: "The question is not whether to tether or not But can your mind remain calm if a tool is dropped? When the ice gets thin and the pro is sparse Will you pull the crux moves or just fall on your arse?"
So, this leaves us right where we began, do we tether?

Does the decision whether to tether depend on the weather? Is the answer a resounding "it depends," like wind blowing on a feather? Or is there an absolute "yes" or "no," like the debate of plastic versus leather?

Nay the question to which you reply, Leather or plastic, the logic awry, Plastic or Stone? Is the question says Jim, And we all know it's Synrock according to him.

There once was a lad from Albany, who's mind did ponder security. He sat and he fret about a tool not dropped yet. If only he'd used the search function query.

The search function query, says Ray, Would have brought the solution my way, So that I wouldn't have to weigh The pros and cons of tethering all day, This lad from Albany profers, though That the answer is not a simple yes or no There is proof for either side you can show for example, a tether may interfere with your flow, and they're useless if your placements blow... On the other hand, a tether can save your life, With falling ice, the sport we love is rife! So when god's hand comes down, holding a knife, coming to give you the chop, you may again see your wife!

A serious question, this Ray asks Yet this inquiry is merely a mask I was looking for a place for poetry to exchange, To tell stories, inquire, anything, even the most strange In all honesty, a little entertainment was all I sought, The desire to be taught, my desire was not Perhaps someone can help my improve my skills in writing lines, Because all I can seem to do when drafting poetry, is rhyme!
