Im going to be in silverton for a good chunk of the summer for geology field camp for CSU. I've never been in that area of colorado and was looking for recomendations for some good trad climbing areas to check out.
Thanks

due to local rock types, most of the cragging immediately around town is sport, some of it quite good. Same with most of the climbing within a short (4wd) drive (T-ride, Lake city). Ouray has some decent trad routes at the pool wall. Durango has decent trad climbing at East Animas, as well as other spots (Hermosa has some obscure fun gear routes). Good adventurous multi-pitch in the Grenadier Range, can see parts of it from Molas Pass. Allow a few days, at least for the first time, unless you're super fit and feeling skippy at altitude. There's also that little canyon between montrose and gunnison...

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
