Coffee in Brevard

So Im a pretty enthusiastic coffee drinker. I have been ordering coffee from different small roasters. I had a damn good cup of coffee this morning and I looked at the bag and realized that I ordered it from the same town I have been going climbing in.

The coffee was Brown Bean Roasters in Brevard and it was their Costa Rica coffee. Damn it was good.

As I was driving around Brevard last weekend, it actually seems like a pretty fun place. We ate at a BBQ right next to the entrance to Pisgah. Oh yeah, the climbing is good there too.

Anyone else know fun stuff to do in Brevard or good places to camp?

That BBQ place by the Pisgah entrance was fantastic. We saw some people primitive camping inside the forest pretty close to the road as we were driving to the Glass Menagerie area.

That barbque places dredges their fries before they fry them, always a plus in my book. Usually, barbque joints have lackluster fries.

Sometimes that BBQ place has live music on Friday nights. As for other fun things in Brevard, they have a new brewery that's pretty good, and O.P. Taylor's is a pretty fun toy store if you're looking for something for the kids. Rocky's is supposed to be a throwback to a 50s diner or malt shop, but it always seems a little grungy to me.

Brevard is a really cool town, I love it. There's a couple of great places to eat downtown as well as "Downtown Chocolates", mmmmm...

For the really hungry, Twin Dragons chinese buffet is awesome. 12 of us once hit that place up after a long weekend backpacking trip that turned out to be more than we had bargained for, we nearly put them out of business.

Dupont State Forest is just down the road as well which is nice for a short hike to see the waterfalls and relax by the river.

the mountain biking around there is at least as good as the climbing; and endless options exsit

Way too much fun stuff to do in Brevard...climbing, bouldering, road and mountain biking, flatwater and Whitewater kayaking, camping, backpacking, you name it! Square Root has an awesome dinner menu, Pescados Burritos delivers the dankness and the Oskar Blues brewery now gives tours! That BBQ is good but not that good compared to other places nearby...the locals don't eat there very often. The Hub is great for getting bike repairs, and they have beer on tap in the store for while you wait right at the entrance to Pisgah. I've spent my whole life around the area and Pisgah always treats you right and I always leave with a rejuvenated peace of mind.

There are good campsites along the road to LG, but you probably already know about those. Also, make sure to hit up Pescados for some good burritos.

Brevard is fantastic. Born and raised in Hendersonville and started mountain biking in Pisgah way back in late 80's. It has really become a "discovered" destination in the last few years with good development both in the forest and in town. My first trad lead was the The Nose on Looking Glass. It would be a great place to live again if only there was work...oh well, I still go back on occasion and get my Pisgah fix.

The motorcycling is also bar-none. The Blue Ridge Parkway is nearby and all the littrle connector highways are generally in good condition. Some very nice loops on a streetbike in the area between Brevard and west to Cashiers/Sapphire.

Also, the backcountry trout fishing is worthwhile. Many swimming holes and waterfalls all over the place.

Brevard Brewing Company has some really good brews. I love their chocolate porter. We stumbled on the place when they first opened before they had any tables or anything and grabbed a couple growlers and we were really impressed, so impressed we climbed like crap the next day. Last time we were up there they had some good live music playing too!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
