fraud alert! paid for cams that were traded to someone else

Is this common? I have heard a couple other people complain about something similar in the last year, but it seems to me that hundreds of transactions occur here everyday, with very few complaints. So, in my estimation, no, it is not common.

Will he remain in good standing? I am not sure exactly what you mean... I wouldn't buy from him. Will he be kicked off of MP, i doubt it, but that would be something the admins would have to decide. This is not a marketplace site like ebay, the admins are not here to police transactions. As far as I am aware they make absolutely no money on the forum. That is all it is, a forum, for random people on the internet to post items for sale, and random people on the internet to respond. Treat it like sex. You wouldn't have unprotected sex with someone off the internet would you!? Don't buy from some random person on the internet with out protecting yourself (I.E. paypal protection).

Especially when the email address starts with "theinfamous."

I hope you get your money back.

Same goes for @hotmail.com or @aim.com. If its @comcast.net or any other internet provider they are probably at least 60 and won't email you back because they don't know how.

Two weeks ago I paid a MP member for $7.00 of gear via paypal and we both assumed it would be for goods and services, not a gift. I paid an extra $0.73 and everything turned out peachy. Use paypal for how it is designed and buyers should offer to pay the fee or if the seller doesn't mind have them eat it (as they should in my opinion). Early last year I considered buying gear from the seller in question, ilclimberken, and I just did not feel right about it for whatever reason and decided against it.

Paul-B wrote: Well, if you have this much info, even if paypal cannot do anything, it seems like the police might be able to help. You know his name, you have that he confirmed receiving your payment, and you have an email from the guy he actually traded the cams to confirming that he traded the cams to him. Also, since the guy that he traded the cams to seems cooperative, perhaps he would be able to provide the address that he shipped the cams too, since it was a trade. He may be hesitant about this, so getting police involved would lend some legitimacy. It was stupid to use gift, as someone pointed out earlier, it is screwing paypal for the service they are providing, and it puts you in this situation. I think there is still a chance that this guy is just a total slacker (perhaps I am judging him by his picture), and will get back to you soon (but I wouldnt hold my breath, contact the police). So you both paid gift and paid the paypal fee? If you pay gift you don't need to include anything for a paypal fee, he will not be charged. Regardless, gift is a bad idea, don't ever agree to it. I assume you have gotten that by now, sorry to harp on it. Last, your posts are PAINFUL to read, the worst grammar I have ever seen. I know this is the internet, I am not asking for graduate level writing, but if you are asking for help from others, at least proofread once.
Why in your sound mind, would you criticize some ones grammer that is obviously seeking some advice. Just remember JERK there is always sombody a hell of alot more educated, inteligent & compassionate then your lowly little self. Guys like you make want to puke. I wouldnt be surprised if your some punk colledge boy who is probably sitting on his ass looking for a job. Or better yet probably to lazy to work!

WHOA! Ellingwood, chill the fuck out. I don't really feel the need to respond to your silly post. I kind of feel like critiquing your spelling of "colledge," "inteligent," "sombody," "some ones," and "grammer," and your use of "your" instead of "you're," but I won't. Your post was very presumptuous and hateful. My post was quite helpful, at the end I suggested he proofread. I suggest you do the same.

Oh and to instead of too. Probably a lot more jewels in there.

aol.com is the #1 worst, you point out the others right behind(great descriptions BTW) and then you have the ole yahoo accounts running a close third.

AOL is THE classic old man address

@gmail is just fine. (I only base the @comcast remark off of my parents)

Trust me, you don't want your own domain unless you own our company's domain and can use that, too. I own my own domain and everyone is either sketched out by it, thinks it's fake, or immediately thinks it's spam.

My domain isn't even something stupid, it's more or less just my name.
