Fool me once shame on you... you know how the rest goes right?

Well just in case, Fool me twice shame on me.

I don't know why anyone would send money to a stranger on the internet as a gift without protection... to what, save a dollar or two? Pretty sure the first $500 on paypal/per month is fee free or something so that really doesn't make sense unless ur doing a lot of business on paypal (AND IF YOU ARE THEN U SHOULD KNOW BETTER).

And if a stranger requested you send the money without buyer protection so it saves them money and you complied, well I've got a great set of cams to sell you too - you can wire $125 to my local western union, right?

Since you've figured out the guys name - can you can probably figure out where he lives. If you're not just all talk go ahead and call the police and file criminal charges against Kenneth. That will get his attention...

I'm pretty sure you just file with your local police department...

Pretty much every post he's made since November has been in the Classifieds. I don't think a guy buying and selling that much gear without problems would just decide to rip someone off. He's been a member of this site for years - he must know that he could never get away w/ taking someones money.

Hope you get your money back.

Am I getting this right? You sent the money as a "gift" to save the paypal fee and the dude ripped you off. So now you are pissed off because you got ripped off. Yet, it is okay for you to rip off paypal. Stealing is stealing.

Whoa... I like that logic, very sound.

And there is no fee if you setup a bank account. This is so dumb, I hope you learned your lesson.

From PayPal:
"Buying Something"
Always free - PayPal is free whenever you use it to buy something or make a payment in the US. The seller pays us a small fee to securely handle your payment. As a buyer, you never pay a fee to use PayPal."

Whenever I have bought something on here, though paypal, the seller has suggested to do the "gift option" to save a few bucks. I have always just said "no thanks," and covered the extra 3% myself. Even if it is an extra ten dollars, the peace of mind is worth it, though I have never had to deal with transaction problems, either.

Seriously, the gift option is intended to be for people who KNOW each other, and who will never conceivably dispute charges with each other. Climbers like to emphasize the "brotherhood" sense of camaraderie that we all share, even if we don't know each other, but seriously, if you would not feel comfortable sending someone a load of cash in the mail, don't do the gift option with them, either.

I don't understand why so many people go riskily out of their way to do the gift option just to save a tiny amount, but hell, I don't know why so many people on this site complain about having to pay a few bucks for the mp app, either, hehe.

Why is everyone ripping on the OP? I'd like to hear IlClimberKen and if he doesn't respond I think it's a good idea to make a huge stink about it on here. I'd bump that thread and slander the crap out of him(unless he posts here and can explain himself).

I think we need to stand up when people get scammed and police this forum ourselves.

A detail I haven't figured out from your posting or the original thread. Did you ever actually communicate with the seller (I'd assume via e-mail) to confirm the arrangement? In the FS thread you asked about shipping included for $80. He replied $85 to ship. There is no post from you after until the complaint. There was another person offering the $85, and the trade offer.

I'm just wondering if there was a mixup where he replied that he'd take $85 to ship and you went ahead and sent it without confirmation from him. If you do have e-mail confirming the arrangement then it sounds like he screwed you over, but you can at least post it here to warn others.

If it was a misunderstanding I'd hope he would be on soon and clear things up and refund your money.

i did not request gift payment, the seller did. if you were following the thread alot of people do it that way. i did not save anything, i paid his asking price and shipping and $2.77 PP fee. one other time i paid as gift i also paid a paypal fee. i'm not out to save 2 dollars on 2 cams i wanted. this guy flat out screwed me, he took my money for the cams then traded the cams to someone else. and will not respond to my e-mails

Is the paypal address that you sent the money to verified? I had a transaction once where the other guy sent to the wrong email and I couldn't do anything for him until he called paypal to cancel the transaction (personal gift).

i sent him a PM, he wanted $85 shipped,i said ok its a deal, i ask to let me know when he received payment. he e-mailed me on 1-29 and confirmed he received payment. i've got the e-mail. paypal confirms he was paid on 1-29 , i have e-mailed him maney times,he will not respond, the last responce was on 1-29 to say he received the money. the address is verified

Some people have shit reading comprehension skills. OP said he used the "gift" selection at the request of the seller - OP didn't save a dime, he was doing the other guy a favor - unfortunately to his detriment.

OP's first post said he received an email from the seller confirming receipt of payment and that he would ship the goods the following day.

Regardless of whether there was a mix up, seller needs to refund OP his money.

Sorry you got ripped off by a 'climber' on a 'climbing site'

Lesson: Buy and trade on real sites designed to do business with real people... surprising that this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.

Wonder when MP starts to become liable for pretending to be Ebay.

I will never buy or sell on MP.

I had a problem with a transaction with Ken in the past and this doesn't surprise me. I hope you either get your money back or your cams without too much more frustration. I think it was cool you did him a favor by saving him the PayPal fees, it's just a shame this happened.

I've been on this site both buying and selling for 6 years without a problem. I'd like to think I've sold alot of great gear at a great price as well.

Not that helps the OP at all.

Your loss. I've bought and sold quite a few things on here and have gotten some great deals. Though I've never had a problem, it's certainly a "buyer beware" environment and you ultimately have to be OK with the idea that you MIGHT get screwed (and take precautions to avoid this, if possible).

I'm sure I've saved a few hundred bucks by now buying on MP. Even if some guy ripped me off for $100 tomorrow, I'd still be ahead.

I have also had great luck and awesome deals on MP with no problems.

Thanks to all members I have bought from!

Well, if you have this much info, even if paypal cannot do anything, it seems like the police might be able to help. You know his name, you have that he confirmed receiving your payment, and you have an email from the guy he actually traded the cams to confirming that he traded the cams to him. Also, since the guy that he traded the cams to seems cooperative, perhaps he would be able to provide the address that he shipped the cams too, since it was a trade. He may be hesitant about this, so getting police involved would lend some legitimacy. It was stupid to use gift, as someone pointed out earlier, it is screwing paypal for the service they are providing, and it puts you in this situation. I think there is still a chance that this guy is just a total slacker (perhaps I am judging him by his picture), and will get back to you soon (but I wouldnt hold my breath, contact the police).

So you both paid gift and paid the paypal fee? If you pay gift you don't need to include anything for a paypal fee, he will not be charged. Regardless, gift is a bad idea, don't ever agree to it. I assume you have gotten that by now, sorry to harp on it.

Last, your posts are PAINFUL to read, the worst grammar I have ever seen. I know this is the internet, I am not asking for graduate level writing, but if you are asking for help from others, at least proofread once.
